well i am a producer and i did a remake sample meaning i replayed a sample over of "Gorge Michael-Careless Whisper"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izGwDsrQ1eQ and i made it into a more uptempo current day kind of club track, and well right now im working on a production album meaning were i just make the beats(all different kind of beats) and different artist like singers & rappers get on the tracks and well the track i did i want to push it as the 1st single off the production album but because i remade the sample i need to clear it & i know nothing about clearing samples so how do i go about clearing the sample so i can push it as my 1st single? btw i uploaded the track witch is fully mixed and mastered so you guys on FP can hear it let me know what you think about it. In this case, man, I say skip the sample. It does nothing for the song, imo. I'd back way off the pitch changing too. Overplayed in genral and overdone in this track.
To asnwer your querstion though, you either have to get rights or change it to a point you don't require them. I can tell you Vanilla Ice wound up writing a check to Queen for Under Pressure because he only added one note... one that was sampled as well. Change a note, change the beat. When sampliung, you just want it to be recognizable. You don't want to actually pirate.
