Hi guys... i was wondering how much you would pay for an album released by an average joe like me.

I'm a producer workin on my 1st album and i'm hopin to sell the albums for £5 (approx $8) on the street and £7 ($12) inc. P&P off my website.

Do you think the above prices are reasonable for a 12 track Hip Hop/RnB album (4 RnB tracks, 8 Hip Hop)?

Obviously without hearin tracks samplers its hard 2 make a proper judgement in regards to cost but i'm looking for initial yes and no's.

Would you wanna part with your money considering you have never heard of me?

These are just a few of the questions i've got on my mind thats making me think twice about sellin my album.

The only reason i'm sellin the album is to recoup my costs and 2 fund my next project.

The RnB samplers for my album can be found on my website... http://www.faithlessproductions.com

Cheers.

Kang.

You have to give to receive. Try doing free downloads and free street giveaways and then see if people are willing to buy your stuff.

No tracklisting just yet as i'm still working on the tracks. No cover either. Gettin the artwork designed once the album is almost complete.

Sorry mate.

I know its a tough one to reply to considering you haven't got much to go on but its the best i can offer at this time.

kontak80 - Yeah i've convinced a DJ mate of mine 2 cut up my tracks and do some bootleg remixes for my website... put the remix album on my site for free and sell the original stuff via my site and on the street.

I also thought about free promo givaways... 4-6 track cd that i could give away. It all depends on how much money i have 2 begin with... i'm workin nights on the weekends and 3 days outta the week (i'm still at uni) to try and get some money saved up to pay for mastering, cd duplication, clothing, flyers etc.

I'd pay $10 for an album released by an unknown artist IF I've heard and liked some of the tracks, AND the CD is packaged professionally.

Make 30 second snippets like iTunes...

People will be able to tell if they like the songs or not. I wouldn't blindly pay $12 for a mixtape.

Things are looking up? :)

Imma hit you after 7(night time minutes)

Yeah the CD will come professionaly packaged. I'm gettin the album art etc designed professionaly. I aint gonna mess around and do my own design in paintbrush... lol

I doubt i'll sell the CD overseas due to postage costs... I'd have to push up the price of the CD to cover the postage costs.

Thanks for all your replies though... i'm feeling a bit more confident.

Also i'll definitly be putting up track samples on my website. I've already put 3 RnB ones up so far. I'll put up 2-3 Hip Hop ones in a few weeks once i've got the tracks recorded.

Also the Hip Hop tracks aren't you standard tracks about hoes, bling etc. My rappers are storytellers and they rap about deep stuff like politics, love etc.

The tracks will be something special even if i do say so myself.

Hope it works out.

ye, i usually pay around $5 for a good mixtape, this aint a great product, just a good, well put together product. I would definately push free products first, have your friends leave em around people's houses and such, under school seats if you have access to that, im sure you could do something along those lines.

dont half ass your products though, you can only get as much out of 'em as the amount you put in...

Well along with selling it on your site for £7 including P&P, you could offer the album for download for something like £3.50, with something extra like a bonus track.

Yeah i'm lookin into the download option but i wanna find a safe and secure way of doin it. I bought an album off a norweigen (spelling) record labels website and the online shop was nice.

Make your payment and u get redirected 2 a secure link that expires as soon as the download is finished and u download protected .WMA files. I wanna look into something like that but its gonna take some time.

Thanks for the input though guys.

$3-$7 seems aight if i was selling in the US as CD duplication costs etc are different over there. Maybe i shouldn't have put the $12 price tag up as it's gonna confuse peeps because production costs n stuff are diff everywhere.

Oh well :s lol
