How do you make a sample sound ambient?

I was listening to some Flying Lotus beats, and wondered if any one knows of any techniques or vsts to make a sample sound ambient.

built in effects from any daw can achieve what you want and vsts are also built in :/

externals are optional.had a similar type of question a long time ago, putting lpfilters or hp filters and modulating them on samples will get you stuff similar to flylo.used to do stuff like that 24/7

think of it as experiments in a lab.

If you're using FL Studio, the Convolver can be a good tool to achieve ambient sounds. Also, the granulizer.

Can you give us a specific example of what you mean? "Ambient" sounding can mean a lot of things...

Tnx for the help, been messing around with different phasers and using filters experimenting, i have Fl studio so ill deff check out those tools.
