What is the best way to find venues to perform at if you are a singer or rapper?

To me, obviously, one way is through connections, and also just going to the venues and talking to the promoters but that hasn't really gotten me very far yet so I'm wondering what are some other ways to find places to perform at...

Seriously?????!?!?!

you can fill bull*** with 10 pages of crap but nobody has anything to say about that subject ???

type www.google.com in you preffered web browser and there is a magical box that you can type anything you want to search for in your situation i would put your state and city and included the words open mic/ clubs/performance venues. try lookin for some commen sense as well

thank you genious, that never even crossed my mind...

^fightt!!! but naw when people actually used to use myspace i'd search for their shows on there. just go to myspace music, click on shows search around ur postal code and change the genre to rap or hip hop unless u wanna perform with rock people.. then just call up the venue and figure out how u can perform there. also a way to check out ur competition.

Thank you Alistrep, that's the kind of response i was looking for...

In my city there's a show every damn night of the week. All you gotta do is talk to the promoter to get you on. If you don't have a name you'll probably have to pay to preform. All those little shows don't mean **** man. It's a stagnent pool of underground bull**** that will never get you anywere. There just tryin to make money off the door and dumb ass artist who will pay a few hundred for a 15 minute slot. dead end.

Build your name up in your area by putting out quality music, meaning getting original beats, having your music professionally recorded mixed and mastered, and hittin up all the local stores and putting cds and fliers up. But definitely have some good performance songs and single material, stuff that will get the club poppin and people feelin you.
Try performing at college parties too, and really work the networking when you're out.

alot of people over look ymca or boys n girls clubs teen centers **** like that you gotta remember thats who buys your music when you do shows at bars and **** like that that age group really dont buy much music your time is better spent chasing the younger fans but on the side note communitcation is key dont be arrogent no one wants to help a smart ass (not saying your are just saying)

rent a hall or banquet facility somewhere and put yourself on the bill. promote it and charge admission.

You can either speak with venue owners directly or speak with club promoters whom are always looking for talent to promote parties with. Start there.
