Hello peoples

I am new to music production etc. and i need some help :)

I now understand that MIDI is not going to help me record the sounds i make using the presets on my Korg microKORG synth

What hardware/software do i need to directly record to my PC, what i play on my synth??

Any suggestions are welcome

Please feel free to point out my idiocy and/or misunderstandings

Tom

Ok... you need audio cables, and a program like Adobe Audition, Pro Tools, Cubase etc. You also need an audio interface that connects USB or Firewire to the computer and you plug the audio cables and MIDI cables into it. That's just basics.

Read the guides of MIDI basics, Audio basics, Signal Flow, and Cables at the link below. You'll find that guide handy for a lot of questions you may have, so add it to your favorites and read through it as much as possible. Click the left side links to view each guide.

ok ok i got Cubase already, and also the USB MIDI cable.
Sorry to be a bother but can you specify the "audio cables" i need??
and by audio interface - do you mean something like Cubase?

thanks for the help mate

Audio interface = sound card. You probably have *some* kind of card/chip - even if it's the built-in one that came with your computer, otherwise you wouldn't be able to hear anything. These are usually obviously sh*t sounding and have usually just 1/8" plugs for limited connectivity.

Audio cables are audio cables - the ones you'd use for hooking up your CD player or guitar to an amplifier, or mic to the mixer or whatever. You just need a cable or two with the right plugs (the "right" being the ones that fit the jacks in both ends, nothing more complicated).

my soundcard is built in to my motherboard
i have guitar leads and the MIDI USB cable and thats about all for the audio cables
and now
which audio cable goes where? :D

Audio cables go from your output of the microKORG, to the inputs of the soundcard/audio interface. The microKORG has 1/4 inch outputs for audio so you'll need an audio interface or soundcard that has 1/4 inch inputs to plug into. If your basic soundcard doesn't have that, then you have to research and find an audio interface that fits your needs.

Here read this... should help you better select an audio interface that will fit your needs/future needs.

At the bottom you have many pages that you can go through

no, audio interface is something that captures the audio digitally and allow u to capture sound into the Audio program(Cubase). Google Tascam 144. Pretty cheap for what it does. Prolly like 150 usd now. U need a 1/4 audio cable and maybe an adaptor depending on what size the audio connection is on ur synth. Is it a keyboard or synth board? just curious

thankyou so much, i actually understand it now :D

might need some help when i buy the soundcard though ;) haha

thanks again!
