Hey guys,
I have a mpc2xl and just got my microkorg and I would like to connect the two. Am I going to need one or two midi wires and will I need any 1/4 cables? I looked in the manual but I dont understand the connections? Can anyone please help?
thanks in advance

What specifically do you want to accomplish by hooking up the MicroKorg to the MPC? I said specifically, get it?

i want to come up with the melodies to go with my drum samples

Let me try to help you step by step!

1. Microkorg MIDI OUT > MPC MIDI IN
(to send midi to the MPC from the keyboard)

2. MPC MIDI OUT > Microkorg MIDI IN
(to sequence/trigger the Microkorg's sounds from the MPC's sequencer)

3. Microkorg AUDIO OUT > Mixer/computer
(so you can hear it)

4. MPC AUDIO OUT > Mixer/computer
(so you can hear it)

5. Mixer/computer AUDIO OUT > Speakers/amp
(so you can hear everything together)

6. On the Microkorg, look for the "MIDI Local" (not sure how its called exactly) setting and turn it off
(so the keys don't trigger the korg "directly" but rather send out to the MPC and then the MPC triggers "back" the korg)

7. TIP: if you want to sequence multiple sounds at once on the korg (like both a Lead and a Bass at the same time), look for a MULTI-TIMBRAL mode (sometimes called Performance Mode)... This will allow you to have multiple sounds selected at once

NOTE: I dont have a Microkorg but I told you general MIDI/studio rules to follow

I hope this helps!
Take care

Uhhh, right ... I think everybody gets the picture about that ... it's obvious.

But what I asked you to do is to be specific about what you want to accomplish, not to give some vague and general kind of answer like that.

Do you even know what the combination of the MPC and MicroKorg is capable of doing to begin with? Are you trying to record audio or MIDI information? Do you clearly understand the difference? (I'd bet not)

Mano did you a great favor by detailing one possible setup for you, but I'll bet you are going to be horribly confused ... because you don't seem to understand the basics of operating the equipment you have.

Asking "how do I hook this up" without a clear idea what you are trying to accomplish is a recipe for frustration.

READ YOUR MANUALS AGAIN, and learn to understand what your are reading. You would do yourself good by going to tweakheadz.com and reading the beginners MIDI tutorials there.

Best of luck, but you need to take yourself to the nest level.
