Is the SH-DJ 1200 very good? or if you guys had to choose would you rather mix on a Pioneer 300.

I appreciate the advice.

For just straight mixing I think the Pio 300 is a better choice (although I don't like that mixer very much, to be honest). For scratching - definitely the Technics mixer, the Pio won't cut it. However, the Technics EATS crossfaders. I think they even come with a spare crossfader. My buddy has one and he wears out faders every 3 weeks or so (he's a turntablist).

I would get the technics mixer over the pio as long as you have a lot of money for more faders... They are said to break often. Are those your only two choices?

No, but I'm looking for a mixer, I spin progressive, and I'm willing to spend about 250 for one.

But I'm starting grad school in 2months and I know I will not have the $$ to buy anything for a couple of years and I would like something quality.

A good friend preaches to me about Berhinger 24-7, but I don't know.

Any suggestions?

Behringer is a no-no, don't let your friend talk you into that. A real friend wouldn't try to make you buy that piece of sh!t.:D

If you spin progressive I think something like an Ecler SMAC30 would suit you better - it will set you back another 100 bucks but then you're getting proper quality for the price.

Yeah, it has a better crossfader, but it still wears out hella fast.

It will, plus you can't even cut properly on it cause it doesn't have curve control.

I thought the whole DJM series had cut control. No?
Maybe we're thinking of different things here. Please explain?

No, only the DJM600 and 3000 have curve controls, the DJM500 and 300 do not.

Hey man , yeah I have a technics DJ SH 1200 , and over all there good scratch mixers. I still use mine but I have just gotten a Vestax PCD 05 II . The 1200 sounds far better compared 2 the vestax 05 > The technics faders don't last that long (there not VCA faders) One main draw back is that I could'nt find anyone who sold the replacment faders already attached 2 the circuit board , (so u'll need 2 learn 2 do a little soldering ) bit of a pain! but a plus point is the 2 band eq. it cuts on both high & low to -24 dB which gives u lovley filter sweeps , again great sound quality ! an all round sturdy scratch mixer (I carry'd it 2 and from many gigs with no problem), with great smooth faders. They have come down in price so a good deal if u don't pay 2 much!

ive owned a sh-dj1200 and pioneer 300. Im into house mixing.
Sh-dj12000 has been superceeded by sxdj1200.
The 1200 eq's are not even worthy of mentioning in regards to the pioneers. The ony mildly interterting thing about the eq's on the 1200 for house purposes is they get a sort of filtering effect when you turn them right down. Personally this annoys me but some ppl like it. A screw in my line/phono switch (1200 mixer) broke and it took two months to get a replacement ( i live in Australia 1200 fadres are to steepish in there curve for house purposes (being a scratch mixer that makes sens4e doesnt it..)

). The mixer was under warranty so i told the the store to give me a djm 300 instead. Damm ugly mixer though the 300 but the Eq's in it are the same as the djm 500 giving it a nice fat, round sound. Didnt break anything it . The faders are nice, didnt have to replace them. Beat counter is useless both in accuaracy and purpose. Headphone volume is adaquate and cueing functions are good. The meter levels are ok. For house, the pioneer smokes the 1200

How is the cut off time compared to a Rane mixer? For example the TTM-56? I sold my TTM-56 to get an Empath and I wish to get a less expensive 2 channel mixer when I do gig's/parties with only 2 tables AND that has good sound quality and good build...

The TTM-56 was great, but I thought it was just practical to sell it since I now work with a 3 table set and most of my mixing is done with the Empath...

So what are my choices for a good quality 2 channel mixer that's for hip/hop and R&B?

Ok well I just bought the Pioneer 300 new on Ebay for 235$, I''ll have it in a week......

yeah u dont need the Xfader if you spin progressive. most use the channel faders.
