Ive heard of people layering three kicks (sub, mids, attack), using a limiter, a compressor, as well as distorting the kick to get that hard dense knocking kick sound.
My question is this: Is it ever ok to clip the compressor/ limiter, is that an existing technique already? Ive slammed my drums a bit with a comp in logic pro x, but never applied any sort of clip distortion, or attempted make either the output/input clip.
I'm fairly new to producing, and am cautious when I hear anything about clipping in fear of creating undesirable distortion. Just thought Id see what people think. Peace.
