hi
whats the effect george michael uses at the begginig of flawless (and many other songs in the charts at the moment, mainly dancey stuff).
its sounds like the drum and bass tracks are being played in another room, but the it comes clear and up front?

Try a room sounding reverb, and play around with the settings!

its not a reverb. hes messed with the eq it sounds like a "blunt" sound but the becomes "sharp" and clear.

Hello,

It could be some sort of filter effect that sweeps in and out.

I'll get back to you when I hear the actual song.

I used to use FL when I first started, and they had a VSt called "fruity filter" and it had a preset called PARTY NEXT DOOR... I think this is what your looking for. When you are recording just tweak the knobs on the high pass and bandpass and it'll come in. This is basically a lowpass filter.

It's done with a multieffect machine... check out T.C.E. Fireworx! It's a damn monter!
It's got all the presets you want (party nextdoor; whatever) additional to that, you can program yourself all the extreme effects...
check it out...

cheers

A great way to achieve that sound you are after with software is with Antares`s Filter...which includes "Quad rhythmic multimode filters".
It is, in my opinion, one of the better plugin filters around.
You could create the effect by setting the frequency range that is required for the sound you are after, then in "automation" adjust the amount of effect you need...i.e
Wetness/Dryness.
When you are at the stage of automating the sound/effect you want to "grow" in the track, just adjust the amount of wetness (effected sound) down to you reach the "dry" (uneffected sound)...in other words, the wetness will be the filtered effect...moving towards the dry, unfiltered (before effect), which ever way you go depends on if you want the effect to "come in" to the mix, or "go out" of the mix, etc. Dry to wet (coming in). Wet to dry (going out).
Well... i think i went alittle overboard on this one..hehe sorry dude
Anyways i hope it helps?

It's a filter, and if I'm not mistaken, a bandpass that starts off narrow and slowly widens its bandwidth over time.

BTW, that song is not George Michael's. It was recorded by The Ones. GM just took the original recording, threw a vocal track over it and called it a cover.

Yah, this sounds like just lowpass/hicut, letting in the highs slowly. I don't know of the track, but that's what I'd use to get that "next door" sound.

You could combine the filter sweep with a slight reverb also, and then slowly go from wet to dry while opening the filter.
