Hey guys,

So I've been listening to a lot of Daft Punk, JUSTICE, LA Riots, LazrTag, all kind of electro music lately and I notice that a lot of electro songs use the same drum kit, the same kick and snare. Anybody know what drum machine these sounds are from? I just want a general answer, not "they layer snares", I know that you can pick out some of these kicks and snare sounds easily just from familiarity.

Songs to reference:

LA Riots - Escape

Photek - Love and War (LA Riots Remix)

Justice - D.A.N.C.E.

LazrTag - Crimewave Harder Remix

Any help? thx!

They use 808 and 909 kit's along with Breaks that use natural drums.

I'm trying to get the drum programming down right now. It's so hard to get it to sound so good. I'm so used to Hip-hop this is a whole new world for programming. I've been listening to techno forever but never really made any.

Most electro is pretty basic as far as drum programming, 4 to the floor pattern at any tempo over 100 bpm with minimal percussion elements. Synths involved, live or synthed basslines, samples often used by Daft Punk and Justice.

Electro is usually 128 BPM.

And you should check out Vengeance electro pack. Tons of great stuff!

What's the cost of that Vengeance electro pack?

I was just about to make the same thread as this as I'm getting into House/Electro production and need some drums.

I would say the VEE (Vengance Essential Electro) because its quite famous and im sure most Electro artists, like Daft Punk, have it.

If you cant find the drum kit, try putting a room reverb on the drums you already have and adding a little bass on the snare. I've been listening to their sound lately and have been inspired to make some electro of my own

Justice uses OBERHEIM DX drum sounds, and so does Daft punk on some tracks (TR 909 on older albums). That's the sound you're after.
Use it with compression and a little bit of distortion.
