FL Studio 10 Producer - Mixer FX

Hey I have a question about the FL Studio Mixer FX...it's probably an easy answer, but I have searched google and tried multiple different options in FL with no luck!

Sometimes I will be working on some music and when I go into the mixer to add some effects, they do not work because the FX square is not in orange. However, when I go to click the FX square to enable FX, it will not let me click it (I click it and nothing happens).

Any help much appreciated!
 
someone correct me if im wrong but , if you go over to the right of the mixer and add your effect the FX box should light up .The box wont be lit up if there is no FX added to the channel.
