i need an EQ/Kill/Isolator unit and i wanna know what u guys think...
i was looking at the Vestax DCR-1200Pro, and it looks very nice but VERY expensive compared to the Electrix EQKiller...
so do u think the Vestax is worth it?

Vestax is pro, used in many clubs and a sure bet, but the Electrix is so nice I've been thinking of biulding me a setup using their filter and EQ. I've been using one and it's great, all worth it IMO.

For example, the DJM 600 can cut the low, mid or high down -26dB...is that comparable to what these other eq box/mixers can do?...or do they cut it even more?

I'm just wondering because my current mixer doesn't cut the eq all the way (with the low knob all the way down, you can still here some bass) so I've been thinking about either buying another mixer or a separate effects unit such as you listed....or both if that's the way to go.

No, the Vestax is definitely not worth it.

The EQ/Killer is actually a much better piece of gear...you can run two sources through it (you switch which one goes though the EQ, and the other source just passes through unprocessed), and you have full adjustment over the crossover frequencies...that allows you to do things like filter-sweeps that cannot be done on the Vestax unit.

The dual-source/switching aspect of the EQ/Killer opens some creative mixing possibilities...I tend to mix into the next song with the bass filtered out, then at a certain point in the mix hit the source switch so that the bass-cut swaps from one source to the other....if done right, it sounds very good.

Also very nice about the EQ/Killer is that the switches don't make noises in the audio...and the overall audio performance is exceptionaly clean.

I tend to be very critical of audio gear (as you might have noticed from some fo my postings here), but I cannot praise the EQ/Killer enough...and at $200 it's a real bargain. (You could buy two or three of these for the price of one of those Vestax units).

Yeah, comes to the price there's no arguments on this battle. I'm also in love w/ the features, sound and overall performance of the EQ's. I'm getting the hang of it but it already promisses a lot! But I've played using the Vestaxes in a club and oh boy they sounded great, although not as versatile - and they were quite beat up actually.

as for the mixer EQ (DJM-600) and the external EQ Q:
no, they cut it all to the end, so there is no sound, those unit are specifically made for EQing, and they also offer nice things like momentary operation, etc...

Alex:
i've heard a lower grade Vestax (FDG-1) in action in a big club and i was WOWED! CLEAN!!! and SMOOTH, and the DJ was using it to do lowpass filtering, and when he did it in the right time (90% of the time) u couldn't tell if it's him or part of the song
also i like the looks of the Vestax better, with those big dials, and it got 4 ch., not 3, so u can get a better vocal separation

These isolators cut the frequency band out completely, while the Pioneer 600 just reduces it with -26dB, which means that there's still some audible sound left in that particular frequency.

Deffy go with the Electrix, the Vestax is overpriced, although it's quality stuff.

i know u can connect the Electrix through Send and Return, what about the Vestax? Alex?

Yes u can, but u'd have to direct it to a channel (assignable), like on a regular effector. I use the DJM600 and the send-return assignment totally cancels out the other effects or the sampler. :(

i like the layout of the Vestax better, but i think i'll go for the Electrix, cos' it cost less, and offers more

i got 2 eq/killers for 80$ each
so i can do both records at the same time
i think my next peace of gear will be that new rotary numark mixer
the mixer does not have eq on the each channel only a 4 band on the master so i think that the eq/killer makes a great partner for it:p

i'm now getting the Xone32, so i'm not sure if i can afford the EQKiller even at 80$ (for now that is, cos' for me it's more than 80$, it's 80$ + ~70$ for shipping, and mayB 17% VAT...) but i'll try to see if i can do something, sell something (blood mayB :bat: JK)... :D
so, do u like it?

the xone 464 has a -26 db drop on each high, mid high, mid low and low freq's...but it also has a high/mid/low filter built in with resonance control....WHOA....it's amazing....

you guys are probably sick of me saying "i've got a xone" lol....i can't say enough, it's a ferrari and i'm lucky to be able to own it..

if you guys would be interested i'm thinking about writing a review on it...

i think i'd like to check on tha EQ killer....would it even be necessary with the eq flexibility i have on my mixer now?

way cool
they have tap buttons to engage the eq, so i set up the frequency so that the i get a good low and mid scratch sound
and i use the eq/killer insted of the X-fader to scratch
sounds rad because i can get a kick drum sound and a snare or clap sound by taping one button or the other
best eq if ever had a chance to mess with:)
