Get the QUAD, why save today, so you can spend more tomorrow? Get the QUAD. O

good point, but it all depends on budget. ive done some research and that E8500 is pretty darn good, and has some good headroom for overclocking if thats what he wants to do. to be honest, music software has not changed much in the last 5 years. why would i say that? im still running an old amd athlon 64, but im not saying get and OLD cpu and save money, its just that I cant justify spending 300-500 on a cpu that will be replaced in 6 months or that the price will drop to 100-200 dollars. what he should do is make sure that his MotherBoard allows for an upgrade in CPU. That dual core is pretty futureproof, and so is the Quad. Right now there still isnt alot of music software that takes full advantage of dual/quad cores, but what he should do is to upgrade his ram.

FL Studio's multicore support isn't all that great, definitely not a selling point for them.

And wasn't most of their 'multi-core support' added in 8 anyway?

They can only do so much with all of that old delphi code.

If your going to by right now, get the Quad, that Yorkfield is nice, 1333 FSB can overclock. The software hasnt caught up yet with this thing. If your waiting like I am, wait for that newer i7 comes down alittle. My setup is outdated in terms of "computer world" but in the reality of "music world" I could keep this maybe for another 2 years with issues...make your moves wisely..

If you're investing in such a computer you should also consider invest into actually buying FL Studio.
Version 7 does AFAIR not support multiple cores at all. (It does spread graphic and audio workload unto different cores, but that's about it)
