This documentary explores the reason why so few companies currently control the music played on the radio and for sale at retail stores, and whether corporations really have the power to silence musical innovation.

Wynton Marlises destroys the A&R Guy. That was a good explanation of why A&R are in the way of talent.

I'm about 50 minutes into it and it makes me very sad. I remember when I first saw C.R.E.A.M. by wu-tang clan on BET's rap city so many years ago. That changed my life man. That song has stuck with me for 17 years.

There's no way Wu-tang, or Mobb Deep would have made it in today's industry. CREAM and Shook one's aren't really radio friendly music. The infamous was a really dark album. They would have never allowed something creative like that in today's age.

I'm sad now.

That guy that played with eric clapton was tight. The industry sucks balls.

Got to make them stockholders happy. Who is ready to sell their souls.

haha yeah that was Bradford Marasalis (wynton's brother) but yeah he's speaking the truth!

producers need to take our jobs back and start directing the musical direction of projects and not letting suits that know nothing about music make musical decisions.

the way i see it is let us make the music and you figure out how to market it!

Bradford is Wynton older brother... he's a cool dude. I met him at this Music Conference @ Loyola uptown... cool people.

Wanna get into doing jazz after all this ... damn.

It's funny you mentioned those 2 videos... 2 of my all time favs.. they will always be playable in my dome..

Man, this shit made me look at myself in a way I never thought of myself. We spend so much time trying to make it and blow up and keep it real by walking a thin line. But I feel like I've been so fake. I stop singing in spanish cause there wasn't any money in it. I make rap beats or beats other find popular cause of the money. But always falls short of what it should be ... REAL, Soulful, and full of heart... God damn.... Feel like a sell out and ain't sold a damn thing.

Good fuking post.... It was life changing.

This is a really great post, i am now going take a different approach when making music and not try to just appeal to the masses but, make good quality music whether ppl like it or not. I think music has become so damn business oriented that its justed ****ed from here on out, they forgot that there in the business of music, give the ppl some quality music don't try create a ****ing formula for something that you think might sale THIS IS MUSIC NOT ****ING RETAIL. This makes me want to work with just indie labels/artist because there's more creative control, thanks for posting this real eye opener.
