When I don't sample bass, I program a simple sine osc. in Vanguard from scratch. I want to dirty it up so it sounds more like a real bass guitar or like it was sampled from a record. Any ideas on what effects to throw on it...maybe some free plugins that might do the trick?

Thanks

For it to sound like a bass guitar you would have to make the
patch do 2 things. You would need part of it making the pluck
sound and the other vibration of the string. You may need to use
2 plugins to get it right or a synth with a mod mattrix to set up
the split.
If I were to do I would use something else then Vanguard.
But you maybe able to do it in it.
Turn 1 osc on at a time and on the pluck first.
Fast attack ,decay, sustain, release.Maybe a square wave pitch up
little.
For the other try a sine wave with a little more ADSR.Keep pitch
down.Maybe a little bit of mod on Filter cut off.

^Thanks I will see if I can figure out how to follow your directions (still reading up on the basics of synth programming).

Use a guitar amp sim, there are a few free on KVR.

Could try a bit crusher to.
