Before timbo & the artists above became big, they were all involved in some kind of production outfit with Devante being the main guy!

Does anyone have or know where i can get any of this early material (or if timbo ghost/co-produced any of devantes stuff), i would find it very interesting to listen & see how thier sound has developed since then - now!!!

(What prompted me to post this was the fact that i have all off missy's, aaliyah & ginuwines albums & was listening to them last night & back in the 90's timbos style was kind of "dark" if that makes sense, everything consisted of just drums, basses & deep strings)

Da Bassment- Love You Down

Check out the first Nutty Professor soundtrack. It's the last cut. I think a young Ginuwine is on that track singing background......I could be wrong. I haven't heard it in awhile. They went by Da Bassment. It has that signature Timbo stuttering drum, but you can tell it's in the early stages of development. I think Devante was given credit for production....."Of course". If you know the history then you know what I mean.

Timbaland didn't meet Devante till after the first Jodeci album, so he didn't do half of the songs that you mentioned. He actually received song writing credits on the songs that he did. I don't have my CD collection with me, but I know for a fact that he had nothing to do with any of Jodeci's hits...

The songs I remember that he had some input of influence on were:

Tupac: No More Pain(He didn't make the track but Devante knowingly copied his drum style)

Da Bassment: Let Me Love You Down(Same as above, but I think he might have done the drum track...the song was originally done by the group Guy)

Sista: This is basically where he did his ghost production. Missy was apart of this group. The album was never release, due to bull**** from the label. The reason why he did alot on this album was because he knew Missy before Jodeci. Missy is the one who introduce him to the group. He already had a working relationship with them...

Jodeci: Check out the "Diary of the Mad Band" album and he got credited for a couple of songs towards the end of the album, mostly the uptempo joint. He also raps on the album. Also check out "The Show, The After-Party, The Hotel" He recieve credit for a few joints. I think "Bring On Da' Funk" and "Time & Place" & Something else(might have been "Freek 'n' You". You gotta to remember that doing the Jodeci days, there were alot of talented musicians, so there would not have been a "Timbaland" track, just a tracks that Timbaland did a little work on.

yeah i realised that timbo had them "dark" sort of beats back then.......it was a simple but afective technique he used and with that nice bass stings, and all......now he just f.u.c.king around wid everything............he mastered his craft i guess.

Yea i have posted mostly everything from devante, not timbo but there wasn't option of showing which ones were co produced by Timbo.

For Timbo's early credits its worth digging into Teddy Riley's discography.

Interesting how some of today's generation of top producers were more or less interconnected with Teddy: Timbo, Neptunes, Darkchild.

eh.. now i have remembered a trick how to look up all the production credits.... i'll try to extract it and post here

ALL PRAISE T.R. ... hahah. He's still my favorite producer of all time. He gets so little mention in here. hehe

Oh yeah. Kanye also Credits Teddy Riley as a big influence, although I don't know if they actually ever worked together. So that's one more to the list. =)

that list is wrong though, because he did do jodeci's 'time & place', and a few more that arent there.. also, that site credits things where he has been sampled, like the 5 instances of 'FREEEK' and 'b2k is hot'

Yea its possible Kanye gives props to T.R., But as far as I know only 3 of the above mentioned producers were really with Teddy:
Darkchild was like 14 when he stepped up to Teddy on a parking lot.

Teddy came to Virginia looking for a place to build a studio. He held a talent show and hired The Neps. Timbo was around the same studio too but I'm not exactly sure if he was Teddy's apprentice.

hot damn what an overwhleming list!! thanx urbanspirit......btw check your pm's man...

I'm no Jock rider but I always see the younger cats kinda not knowing/loving digging AT ALL to learn about the music they love. ANd I hear waaay too many "Danja is better than Timbaland". SO yes, I revived this thread for educational purposes only. Be mad

I love reading the credits and seeing where cats got their start....
