Collaborating through different mediums.

I'm looking to collaborate with other artists but I keep running into a common problem. Everyone uses different hardware/software combinations. Using Reason, this makes it hard to work with people who use FL. My question is, is there any sort of common format to use between DAWs, or maybe a technique to make the process easier?

Only way I can think of is tracking out the entire beat, sound by sound. Just make sure you don't do something like put too many drums on one track to where the other person can't take out a sound without taking out another. You should be good with the Kick and Snare on the same one, probably the only exception.
