Bought a turntable but I am not getting much sound

I bought a turntable last week brand new. It is a Jaytec DJT-20.

I hoped it would have a 3.5mm lead to plug into my more powerful speakers, but it is only RCA which I didn't think was much of a problem.

When plugged into a hifi or bass guitar amp there is sound but not much. Very low volume.

I thought all it would need would be to go through a preamp? Surely a hifi/guitar amp would work?

There is also a GND lead, does this need to be attatched to anything?

I only want this turntable for playing records, not for DJ or sampling.

Any help?

I don't know too much about guitar amps and stuff but yes, you need to run it into a phono preamp and then from the preamp you can run it into a mixing board or possibly into your guitar amp. The preamp should have a ground screw that the gnd lead would simply attach to. Just running the turntable into your amp will not work. It needs the preamp to boost the signal.

Thanks for the advice.

Is there a certain type of preamp that I need to buy? Or just any type?

Would this one do?
