Hey all.

I am a Logic X user, inspiring to develop Hiphop music. I am looking for high quality synths, drum machines, and other VST's which is popular among today's hip hop producers.

My starting point in production is Kendrick Lamar's "Good kid madd city", which has amazing sounds.

can anybody assist with:

1. Your top 5 VST's

2. Which VST's were used in "Good kid maad city" album, or any similar, which can create sound like in that album?

Thank you guys

There are a ton of vsts out there to name. I don't know which vst was used in that album, but i do know most soft-synth vsts do the same thing.

It's better to just stick with one soft-synth vst and learn it in and out. That way you can create any sound you want.

Back when I was using another DAW i used mostly Native Instruments stuff and Luxonix purity.

Most songs on GKMC are just samples + drums, except for "Swimming Pools", "Maad City" and maybe couple of others.

Most used VSTs in hip-hop today are Nexus 2, Gladiator and Purity.

Apart from loop sample packs from the renowned companies I use BTVsolo and Battery for perfect drums.

predator, gladiator ni fm8 is where i started..

All you need is autotune and a big heart. Only babies use VSTi's buy real instruments like a man.

says the guy with a song in his sig that has sampled drums and vocal chops..lol stfu

Yeah Massive/Nexus are pretty widely used. Depending on what kind of music you wanna make, try out edirol orchestral; probably the number one orchestral VST out there.

Check out my beats for examples: soundcloud.com/Lambeau

I use vsts ranging from Omnisphere, Hypersonic, Nexus, to Kontakt libraries, Battery 4, etc

Using soundfonts is a great way to replicate real instruments rather than using VSTs

I used Nexus Hypersonic and Purity when i first started those are some good plugins. I've also found Firebird and Gladiator to be Dope.

Use the stuff that comes with Logic. A lot of people use those instruments on records. Buy vsts to fill in the holes for the things you do not already have.
