Hello...so what Akai sample CDs is everyone using out there? I've found that the stuff made by EMU is always nice. I'm lookin for some "not so clean" sounds. I got a couple guitar and string Akais, but they sound TOO CLEAN! I'm lookin for some grimey sounds...like the EMU Vintage Keys, Planet Phatt Etc. Any reccomendations and comments greatly appreciated! Please help me build my sound library! :D
Thanks

why don't you just make the sounds you wanna use grimey yourself in a wav editor like cubase, wavlab, or cool edit????

I like alot of the East Collexion, the piano and the percussions ones are used alot in my music. I also have the nicebytes synthlines : Kork Trinity & navotion supernova.

i only got the east west disks

I want some more anyone want to trade. I need some.

i have a few gazillion sounds on one of these hard drives in this cube.....lol.

Sample CD-ROMs are important in production, don't diss them too fast

Hans Zimmer didn't have an orchestra or a choir when he scored Hannibal - yet it is BEAUTIFUL and even the guys at keyboards mag were like "you didn't use Symphony of Voices for htis one, it doesn't sounds like it it sounds better" and he said "It IS Symphony of Voices all the way!"

This means: if you are GOOD then you can use those things in ways that make them your very special thing.

ALSO there is a difference between using pre-made loops (not for me thanks) and using mapped patches (ie separate notes recorded without effect and mapped on the keyboard)

Those are 2 very very different ways ppl use sample CDs.

yeah symphony of voices is the ish and the hans zimmer guitars always get me going....

What kind of equiptment does his use?

I usually sample from vinyl and then use something like PlanetPHatt or VintageKeys to fill it up. I like the raw grimey sound they have. It's not very easy to get that true warm sound that sampling gives, but the EMU stuff I'm sure has been processed through tubes and all that. I like that sound, but I don't have any real tube hardware, so processing something like HansZimmer on the computer won't really give me the results I'm looking for. Most sample CDs are dead clean...this is great for most music, but I like my grimey hip hop :D
Anyways, does anyone know of any Akais that aren't crystal clear? Are those EastWest disks any good?
Thanks again
