Hi guys,am new into making beats especially hip-hop beats East-Coast style.I just got myself the fl studio ten and i already feel like quitting.I am finding it very difficult to even make a melody using instruments from the sytrus.I don't know what instruments to add up to make a melody and i cant play they keyboard too.I can only make just 2 patterns using a kick and clap just that only and i get stuck don't know what to add to make it sound good and where should that instrument be put. This is really getting on my nerves but i want to do it please i need advice from y'all. Thanks

This feeling is only in the beginning and where most people stop. You just got to get through that fase and than it's really not a problem anymore. Just practise alot, read about music production and also theory, learn the keys and you'll get better.

Fustration is a part of the process...even hose who are great at making beats still have fustration...so no worries....

The best advice I can give is to MOVE PAST IT.......

Keep at it, listen to those you like the sound of, and build your sound library!! its all about the sounds you have!

Keep going and good luck! :)

Practice! Check out my sig I'm more east coast sound myself, and feel free to pm me if you think I could help ya out. Keep going!

At the beginning i think watching tutorials helps a lot..and practice of course. Only through practice will you get better. Experience is the best teacher

Best bet is to watch alot of youtube Fl tutorials and copy what is being done while watching the vids and after awhile putting together a beat will be second to none.

Right find some tutorials and keep going, once you get the basics down its a lot easier.

I agree that you have to keep at it. Non of us learned overnight. Check out the software in my sig. It is aimed more for beginners and can help you get the basic idea compared to FL which more professionals use.

Just wanted to stop back in to add that part of starting out is basically finding out what doesn't work.

I wouldn't recommend doodling. have a end goal for your project and learn as you hit barriers. sitting there fiddling with things making pointless beats is a dead end road. have a reason to make a song before you even start producing. stop doodling.

I felt the same way and sometimes still do, but mostly because any music I make doesn't really sound like any genre. Reading a couple of books and watching some videos on Youtube about music theory and production helps a lot though. I have only been trying for 2 weeks too so I try and put the frustration behind me.

yeah you just need to keep at it.. i was in the same situation but just watched loads of videos and read a lot

Hey man...the video that I watched a couple of years ago when I first started that made everything click for me for FL Studio is a video called "How to make a simple beat" by HIPHOPTUTORIAL.

He also has a decent website with tutorials.

Also, all the Warbeats tutorials by NFX on youtube are recommended. I watched every single one of them, some multiple times, when I first started.

You gotta have that thirst for knowledge and improvement in the beginning, but it will start getting easier. It's amazing to me how easy it is to make beats in FLStudio now.

(I'd post the links, but I'm not 20 posts in yet)
