Hello everyone this is my first post here at FP and Id just like to say that Ive enjoyed browsing through these boards for quite some time now. So thanks to everyone who has contributed...

Anyhow, Im a big fan of the AT 3035 microphone and I was wondering if there is any sizable quality difference between these two mics. I love the 3035, but I also recognize its flaws. Ive been looking for an upgrade in my mic dept. and have been looking at 4040 based on my satsifaction with the 3035.

Long strory short...should I go for the 4040 or look elsewhere for another alternative in and around the same price range? Keep in mind Im a big fan of the Audio Technica sound.

Thanks...

The 4040 is one hell of a microphone - you can comare it head to head to any other mic in the $300 range. From what I understand it is very clean sounding and uncolored - if you need that type of thing.

I too am an AT fan. I use the 4050 consistently & have yet to be disappointed...
I don't think you could go wrong with the AT products including the 4040...

AT3035 with a yamaha mixer,.......I LOVE IT! THe mic is very good quality.....my 2 cents.

what are the flaws you are experiencing with the 3035, im just curious? its a pretty damn good mic but the 4040 is sweeter, for the extra hundred.

my real question to u is, are u trying to invest in a top dollar professional mic, or are u trying to spend almost the same amount of ya last mic for an upgrade mic?

im just trying to understand a bit on my spend the extra hundred on a 4040 when u can save up a bit more for a better mic? nahmean?

Thanks to everyone who responded...

I actually went ahead with the purchase of the 4040 and so far its easily worth the extra hundred bucks (I actually have a friend who works at Guitar Center so I walked away with it for $250 out the door!)
I have a few mics in my cabinet that I work with including a Nuemann TLM 193, but honestly Ive been turning to the AT 3035 for my recent recording (mainly rap vocals). SO I was just curious to see what difference there would be in the 40 series. And like I said, I am very pleased to add this mic to my collection.

Thanks again...
