i am having crackling and popping sounds with my xlr at2020 mic. i bought a at2020 mic a few weeks ago and it was doing the same thing so i returned it and bought a new one. it is doing it too. i also removed my audio interface and connected my dmp3 preamp directly to my motherboard sound card with a 1/4 to 3.5mm cable. i also did this with my monitor speakers and updated my realtek audio drivers.
What is causing my mic to make cracking and popping sounds? if i record audio in silence the popping isnt there. if i record my speakers playing audio i dont hear crackling either. i only recorded about 30 seconds though ill try longer durations after this post and update if i hear crackling otherwise theres no crackling when recording audio from my speakers. however, when i talk into the mic every 10 seconds sometimes 20 to 30 seconds i hear a pop or crackle sound. sometimes it occurs when i stop talking for a split second and i can see the little crackle audio spike just sitting there. i talk about 7 to 10 inches away from the mic. the mic is usually to the side cause i dont use a pop filter so i dont blow air into the mic. this was my last attempt to fix this setup i have. i will have no chocie but to sell the mic and preamp and all the cables and buy a usb mic. i dont remember my shure sm58 mic causing these problems the pops arent in any of my youtube videos. i was confused though because my 192 audiophile pci interface was causing crackling sounds too both through my speakers and mic so i removed it and used my motherboard sound card. this fixed the issues with my speakers but like i said the shure sm58 recordings came out clean. listen to my two latest video game ocmmentaries on my youtube channel username: dreamcaseal
you can hear crackling every now and then
