Does Anyone know how much these reggae artists may charge to get on your riddim. I mean artists like Vybze Cartel, Assassin, Predator,Lexus, Wayne Marshall, and more heavy weights like Elephant or even Bennie, Capleton, Sizzla, Bounty. Those level of artists. If anyone knows, please inform me. Thanks.

If your coming from state side they'll charge you more. From what I've heard Bounty has charged JA80,000 to do a dub plate. Use that and estimate how much it will cost. Try to buss the riddim with smaller acts and they they'll come to you to be on it.

Thanks Mr Curlz. So, do artists charge someone like Dave Kelly or Jeremy Harding money to voice on there riddims, and do have any idea if the producers making real real money after putting out a riddim. After the love for the music, Its all about the ends. Holla back.

I don't think artists charge Dave Kelly to be on his riddims as his stuff is always hot and they jump at any chance to be on a hot beat. Artists don't really make money from sales here. Stage shows make them the bulk of their money. So if they have a hot song on a hot rhythm they'll be on all the stage shows making the big bucks.

Dave Kelly sometimes has Buju, Beenie, Bounty, Baby Cham, Elephant among others on his beats. Somehow, I dont see him forking out $500,000 to get ten top name acts on his beat.

The producers make money if the song takes off like Diwali. If it's hot here they can count on at least 2000 copies of each record on the beat to be sold to sound systems. With 20 songs on a beat they can recoup manufacturing costs then hope that VP or Greensleeves liscences it.

Its a $#!ty game, but you learn to enjoy the smell after a while.

I would prefer someone like shams or tony kelly or don corleone, nothing but personal :-D

dub plates or new tunes

I know that artists charge different prices for dub plates (less) as opposed to voicing new tunes (a lot)...when artists came to Brooklyn, Sounds Systems would line up at Don One studio with cash in hand for artists to voice dub plates (the Sounds would just bring DATS of mostly existing riddims that were already popular in the dance)

However to voice new tunes?

A lot of artists have relationships with certain labels.

For example...when Madhouse (Dave Kelly's label) drops a new riddim you will almost always see Baby Cham, Killa, and Wayne Wonder on it...

From what i learned when i was down in JA, if you're riddim is hot then the producer will seek out the top artists to do a version or they already has a relationships with a label(similar to madhouse's artists)...and then the producer will seek out the newer talent(the ones that just hang outside the studio gates waiting for a shot) if the riddim makes it big on the radio.

As far as stateside? Hip-hop acts to get artists through their management either here in the states or in JA and then they work out performance or royalty payments...
