so i sold my mbox 2 i never liked it... i have been looking at the io24 and have heard good things but to save space and money i would like an audio interface that has direct monitoring and something that can be used when the computer is not on so it can function as my mixer... since i have a laptop that is not always on when making music

thanks

do you mean the io26...?

I got an io26, I'm lovin it. It's built really solid no rattling when you shake (if ya shake it). All the connections are bolted or screwed in, not just set in the hole.

The direct monitoring is great after you get used to the direct monitoring program.

The adat inputs make it expandable, plus its got phono preamps for turntables.

My favorite thing about it the fact that the phantom power is selectable in pairs, so you don't loose four inputs when you need phantom power.

And it comes with the AC adapter so you can run it without the computer.

so i can use the io just ot monitor sound without my computer, wow amazing this is the piece for me since i can pick up adats for like 120 eventually when i need em...

work great with macs and ableton?

How many inputs do you need? I like the saffire and saffire pro.

i wouldnt mind about 10 but since i dont have the cash i can settle for 6 or more...

i also have been looking at the echo audiofire 8

and i would love 16 plus

Look at the saffire. I believe it has 6 ins. It also had a dsp chip for effects.

How much are you looking to spend?

I believe all the MOTU interfaces work standalone as well. I'm using the UltraLite, which works great - though I've never tried it without the comp.

unfortunatly i am only looking to spend like 150-300, since i need a midi controller as well....i have about 400 for both.... i will upgrade in about 6 months to something better but i do not want to have to rerecord anything due to quality, i dont run vs'ts or anything just whatevr program i am recording into as well and i have a macbook pro 2 gigs 2.0 processor so i am not worried about latency if i get anything with firewire

what about something like the audiofire 8 .... i can pick one of these up pretty dahm cheap (under 200)

I'm all for the io or the audiofire, I was looking at these 2 myslef, let us know which one you went with and why....

i went with the echo audiofire 8... i was going to go with the alesis it comes recommended to me from reputable sources.... but

i got the echo for 175 bucks no shipping no tax and you cant beat that....

actualy on second thought the same person recommended and had the audiofire 8...and the reason why i was gonna go with the alesis was the 26 io (with adats) and it was cheaper (and looks nice)

i think the biggest thing you have to look at....is the 8 phantom powered on the alesis if you need that and the 2 on the audiofire

I heard the Alesis has issues with some MACs. I would look into that.

If you got the audiofire 8 for only 175.00, you got a great deal! I want to buy one!
