AKG 8000 S from musiciansfriend, and other secrets uncovered
the links at the end of this post speak for themselve's
(i hope i did them right)
some of u may have gotten the new MusiciansFriend catalog (BIG SALE! recived around 01/01/04). there are some apparently good deals on mics (lots of off-brand SM-58 knock-offs), but read carefully, and beware of miss-prints...
AKG D8000S
"list": $399.98 for 2 (~$200ea.)
AKG D60S
"list": $91.10 for 3 (~$30ea.)
THESE ARE THE EXACT SAME MIC EXCEPT FOR THE COLOR OF THE WINDSCREEN!!!!! for real, check out the links... as for the D9000 and D590, i can't find specs for them anywhere on the net, including AKG's website. and u know how mf is about having (or not having) any useful information when u call the 800#(duh... killa-hurtz? let me look it up in the same dum catalog u have, cuz im we-todd-did)
evidently, all these mystery mics are manufactured exclusively for mf by AKG... kinda like the "beef" at micky-deez... very suspicious!
the list price is an imagined number, a little 2 high 2 fool all the poeple all the time...
another one: Nady StarPower SP-R3 (mf: "detailed, crisp highs")
mf lists the frequency range at 50Hz-16kHz, while the Nady site lists it as 50Hz-12kHz... hey now, that's an important chunk of highz that mf added thurr... lets c... how would u like your cymbals, hi-hats, sax, etc. to be missing all treble above 12kHz? personally, for a modern-sounding treble/sizzle in the hi-hat i like 12kHz and above.
in summary, the AKG D 8000 S is not as good as the SM58/57 as far as i can tell (except that the frequency range goes up to 20k, vs. 15k in the SM58/57, which is good for cymbals, etc). because the D8000 only goes down to 70Hz (vs. 40Hz in the SM57) its not anywhere as good for bass-heavy applications (kick drum, mic'ing a bass amp, acoustic piano, etc.)
if u have a strong stomach and still want to do business with these guys, i would suggest the AKG D-880 as a cheaper alternative 2 tha SM-58. i left the link 4 those specs 2
dont u try 2 mark me, playah... now i had 2 put u on shout
ps, i would like 2 know more about Polar patterns, Sensitivity, SPL, Equivalent noise level, Impedance, 2 really be able 2 compare these mics.
D 8000 S "deal" D 8000 S Who knows what it is? AKG D 60 S specs. hmm.. these looks familiar....
Nady SP-R3 specs, listed at bottom AKG D-880... a better idea?
