im tempted to actually do the dl, but was wondering if i could get a few questions answered about it

1. do i actually need a keyboard to use it? Can I rig it to ONLY get info from the keypad and mouse? i currently have no keyboard with midi output- is there an internal keyboard that lets you enter the notes a la fruityloops?

2. how does it compare to Rebirth? any easier to use? any less limited?

3. are there any particular genres that it works especially well for? - any specialization?

ok. excuse me if they seem like basic questions- i've seen other posts about similar themes...but none really answered my questions :) ok thanks

you can step in the notes by hand like a sequencer... but its very annoying as its not really made for this, and it seems all over the place if u do it this way.

It is nothing really like rebirth at all.. it is only limited by your cpu / imagination, it emulates alot of real machines and they look/work the way real ones work.. so its limited really to what you can do on equipment (in a sense...)

And ive heard it produce many different kinds of sounds.. so i dont think its really genre specific

Some answers for you!

1. While it is not quite as easy to enter the notes as Fruityloops it is definetely possible. Entering the notes is very similar to any of the classic sequencers.

2. It is far less limited than Rebirth and far easier to learn, even for a newbie to computer based music composition. As far as sound goes, it blows Rebirth away. Rebirth has always suffered from being instantly recognizable by it's distinct sound. I guess this could be a good thing but it definetely limits it's uses. Reason on the other hand doesn't suffer from the same problem.

3. Reason will obviously work better for the House, Progressive house and Trance genres but anyone with any little bit of creativity and originality in their blood would be able to use it in many different genres.

Bottom line. Reason is absolutely amazing. If you have tried other software music programs such as Fruity and Orion you will be blown away by the sound quality, and limitless possibilities that Reason can offer. Don't believe me? Download the demo from Propellerheads website!
