hey didnt know where to put this.

in fl studio i set the time signature to 6/8 and still cant get a drum beat at 6/8 that sounds right. Im just tryna get some hi hats down 6 every bar.

im experimentin with different stuff and i thought id try makin some beats with 6/8. I make hip hop beats and use FL Studio 4 And Reason and acid xpress.

thanks for any help in advance

i just tried and it seems almost impossible in redrum. seeing as it is made for 4/4

In FL, you gotta play with the quantizer in order to sound good. I'm experimenting with this also at the moment, so I can't give you any good quantize presets. But mess around with it, you'll get some really cool sounding drum combos.

hey ive found a quantize preset in fl studio for it!

but you still have to work to get the hi hats in near the rite place and then quantize with that preset.

i'll put up a FLP file with hihats for a 6/8 beat in a sec

peace

download flp

just substitute ur own hihat and kick and snare

hope this helps some other people

peace

I dig the string melody in the 6/8 beat. It has this melancholy feel to it.

I never tried to venture out on any time signature other than 4/4.

I will give it a shot, when I feel up to it.

It can be done in FL, I've done it plenty of times. I've even tried doing a 3/4 melody with 4/4 drums squashed in over it, and it works!! Just start off doing some simple 1,2,3 1,2,3 rhythm, like some waltz sh*t. And work around that.

Yea the beat sounds about right! You got the skeleton down perfect.

Only the graphic user interface gives the impression of being "locked" into 4/4. Just set the pattern length to correspond with the time signature - that is, if you are using patterns instead of programming the drums individually in the host application.

If you're going for 6/8, adjust the Redrum patterns to the length of 12. That way you can program two six-hit cycles per one pattern instead of two eight-hit ones. If you are programming the drums in the host instead, using the Redrum modules as rewired drum boxes, it's as simple as triggering the hits in any time signature. I prefer doing it this way, programming the drums as MIDI parts in the host and routing the sounds individually to appropriate rewire channels.
