connecting soundcard and preamp help ->

Hi,

I have and audiophile 2496 which has a RCA phono input and a preamp which has a XLR or 1/4" jack output.

I tried connecting the two using dual RCA to 3.5mm jack with a 1/4" converter on the end but the sound only came through on one channel and not in stereo. And the soundcard is fine because it works in stereo when I connect a signal with dual RCA to dual RCA cable.

Is there a 'right' way of connecting between the two? RCA ---> XLR/jack.

What do you mean by RCA phono? A preamp only records in mono inless you have a mic capable of recording in stereo using both inputs.

It's ok I figured it out. Thanks for the reply though. What I meant when I said stereo is mono left and right. ie, the recorded wave looks like it has two channels as apposed to one single mono wave. RCA phono lead is the lead with the white and red ends.

What i was doing wrong was using a stereo converter instead of a mono converter which was causing the track to only record on the left. Because as you rightly said, the signal recorded is only a mono signal.

Again, thanks for the reply. :)
