the german website delamar has a podcast about recording, mixing and mastering (unfortunately only in german).
"Homerecording for Beginner" was their last podcast and they published some additional information about it on a seperate (german) pdf which you can download here (but you need either a twitter account or a facebook account to get to the link...sry for that
).
Anyway, this could be helpful because they recommended a few different HOME RECORDING (!!!) setups within different price ranges ( 300 Euro - 1000 Euro ).
Not quite sure about other "better" setups but I think a good start.
