i was just reading about how good the SM 57 mics were for snares and toms and anything that's acoustic, and they're only 100 dlrs.

So i've read around 100 reviews! some people say that this mic with a good pre amp sounds very cool.

so i was wondering what does the pre amp do? and what are some good pre amps?

the signal goin into the mic needs to be boosted to be heard, pre-amps amplfy the signal so it can be heard an recorded.

diffrent pre-amps will produce a diffrent quality and sound, an depends if its for live sound or recording and your budget, u can have the best mic in the world, but a crapy pre-amp will make it crap..

but yhe SM57 are one of the best mics goin

Yeah I heard, I just bought a SM7B. Allow me to warn you though, you need a preamp with at least 60dB gain. And that's a **** load to me, that's like the knob on my RNP cranked all the way up. It sounds damn good though

Thanks, i finally understand.
Do you know which pre amps are good and affordable?
any brands or prices or at least something to start searching?

around 500 or a little more!!!
is it still too little money?

i don't know i see a lot of prices like from m audio and others but really i would just like a good one that would work nice with the sm 57s
