If your room isn't acoustically treated then use any monitors strictly for stereo imaging. Couple this with a good pair of cans that have decent low end extension and are semi closed.
I use the AKG 712s as it has extended bass response and I use this specifically for my hip hop commercial mixes. I use the Senn HD 650 when working with EDM.
I can honestly say, and even with a very good monitoring system housed in an acoustically treated room, I use headphones for most of my work.
