The correct way to mix break loops into a beat?

Is it wrong to re-compress? Even if its a little, the fact that recording is already compressed?

Or

Should I just try to EQ it a little then Lvl it in the mix?

what else is in the mix, how important is the break verses the other elements, and what is the primary musical function of the break?

Mainly a just that a sample a drum sample and a bassline so far.

Once you determine the role the sample plays in the mix, how to mix it shouldn't be tough. If it's just the sample and a bass line, it very well may not need any mixing.
