Automating Reverb on the break

How do you automate it so the reverb DOESN'T continue after you cut it? Like you want the reverb to build during the break then 4 beats before the drop you want the heavy reverb to just stop and not follow?

Create the automation for an on/off or bypass switch. You could automate the wet level of a reverb too. Automating an on/off switch would cause an abrupt stop for the reverb, but could cause a click. Automating the wet level gives you more control over the stopping time of the reverb (to get rid of any audible clicks, but the reverb won't reset when bringing the level back up.

In my opinion, the best way to do this is to keep the reverb plugin on an auxiliary track (so the instrument sounds clearer to begin with), then automate the volume of this reverb track as you need to. This way, you can fade the reverb volume down without abruptly cutting it and without messing with your mix by changing the properties of what always plays through.
