Want to buy a AKG 3000 Condenser Mic

Hi,

I am going to buy a AKG 3000 Condenser Mic. I have a P4 Pentium and a 24 bit sound card. Do I need anything else to record through the mic? New sound card? Pre amp? etc.

a new soundcard and mixer (which can act as a preamp for your mic) will definatly do you good

the audiophile 24 96 is a great card. if your only rockin 1 input (just the mic) at a time, then you dont need any fancy mixer. check out the behringer or mackie line
 
Should I get an external card, rather than an internal card?

Also, I read a bit about phantom power, do I need to purchase anything besides the mic, cables and soundcard to get excellent sound quality?
