More drum sounds?

Lately ive been looking harder than ever for new and inspiring drum sounds. Im starting to grow tired of the kits in battery, and for the last 4-5 months ive been mostly using my exclusive drum kits/samples collected from kits collected from all over the web. Maybe i need to invest in a drum machine? Im doing mostly R&B, so im always looking for some different sounding snair/clap/kick ...but i keep running into the same 808 samples lol...I am aware that i need to step up my drum game though, so im looking for a way to do just that.

One other question that i do have thought, is about the snair & kick in Monica's "Until Its Gone" record (particularly the snair)..how did they get it to sound that way?? what effects do you think were used? Im looking to get drums something similar to that

Yeah it may be time to get some new kits, you can find them on the net or even Ebay. I would look at sound that are little dated like old school if your into r&b sound that are not being used by many.

I dont know what production software to use to start out producing beats.. I am a total novice at everything pertaining to software and wonder what program would be best for me. Garageband doesn't seem to have any really hot sounds for hip hop music and when I try to manipulate the sounds they sound even worse. I have a mac and thats it so maybe someone can also give some knowledge about equipment I should buy also
Anyhelp much appreciated..

I know there's a lot of bs kits floating around the internet, but there are also some gems. Just keep searching. In case you haven't already, try layering some of the sounds you already have.

Drum Machines won't help chances are you already have those samples. I think sampling vinyl may actually help some. It takes time and by no means am I saying have that be your only source of drum sounds but it can't hurt. The sonic specialists stuff gets a lot of praise too. I personally don't want to pay that kind of money for one shot drums though.
