Senn HD 25
I picked up
the Senn HD25's last week! I thought there were a touch expensive though but I picked them up anyways. Thus far I'm quite impressed.
I haven't tried the Pioneers that you've referred to but I have used the Sony MDVR's, which I thought were bulky and prone to severe bass hyperbole!
But the Senn's . . . ahhh, they're just magic!
First, they are extremely comfortable. They're light, and they don't have a vice-like effect on yer head. The cables connecting the earpiece are replaceable should they be accidentaly damaged. Both earcups swivel in either direction so that you don't need to twist your neck in order to monitor one earcup.
Second the sound is excellent for a closed headphone. The bass is punchy and the highs are smooth. Good soundstage as well. They don't have the nice airiness and fluidity of
my Grado SR-60's (which I use for portable listening), but they make up for it by having more detail in the mids.
My only gripe with the Senn's is the length of the cord. If memory serves, it's a measly 1.5m long. So if you're record stack is about, say, 5 metres away from your decks like mine are, you can look forward to a horrible case of whiplash brought on by an unreasonably (and uncessarily) lengthy cord. This can all be overcome, however, with the purchase of a cord extender!
In other words, there is no need to audition the Pio's. The Senn's are fab!
