The Pussification Of Men...

Here ya go Foot. You can probably work with 'em better than I can. I'm back in school, working out with the wife, doing yardwork and 50 other things.... OH!!! Here is a WILD discovery, I was cleaning my rims on my car after I was doing some yardwork... I didn't feel like drying the rims off... so I took my LEAF BLOWER and pointed it at my rims and it was just like coming out of the car wash. Air drying your rims with a leaf blower cuts the drying time in half... even less than half. You'll look crazier than a mf but you'll be done faster and if anybody asks what you're doing... just tell them you got the idea from the drive thru carwashes... (blowing forced air on your car...). Shit Works! No streaks - none o dat. I have an electric leaf blower, not the super loud gas powered one.

The download link is the arrow on the side...

This drum loop only has 3 drums...

Here's how I made it... (for the rest of FP, Foot probably can make that pattern - this is me doing my FP duty...)

I have a REDRUM with all of the Gate Outs routed the the Gate In's on a KONG DRUM... (actually it's two REDRUM's because I had to have routing to all 16 pad on the Kong Drum - you can see a minimized REDRUM if you look close enough)

drum0.jpg

THE BPM IS 130 - (this loop could be RECYCLED to play at any tempo though)

The STEP LENGTH IS 32 ... (see the RED 32 in the next screenshot)

The first drum hit is a KICK on steps 1 - 16 (look at where it says EDIT STEPS it's on 1-16)

drum1.jpg

The KICK continues on STEPS 17-32 (look at where it says EDIT STEPS it's on 17-32)

drum2.jpg

Then comes the snare hit set to 9 on steps 1-16 AND 17-32

Snare on steps 1-16

drum3.jpg

Snare on steps 17-32 (in the same place... you aren't looking at the same screen shot)

drum4.jpg

The 3RD drum hit runs a NURSE REX LOOP PLAYER in KONG DRUM. Its a Hi Hat pattern - but it's playing at 130 bpm (about 2x's it's normal speed because I didn't do anything to it - ANY .rex loop could go here - I tried some that sounded better - but I hadn't intended on making anything). The hit that runs the .rex loop hits on the 1.

drum5.jpg

Here's the rex loop on PAD 3 in the KONG DRUM being driven by CHANNEL 3 from the REDRUM...

drum6.jpg

The breakdown you hear on bars 7 & 8 is caused by a DELAY with the ON / OFF switch animated... here's the DELAY (look under the .rex player)

drum7.jpg

Here's the ON / OFF animation... I used to always do my break downs with a delay...

drum8.jpg

After I hit play, I got the loop in that SoundCloud link...

If you put in 808's and Claps and don't add a rex file... you'll have the beginnings of "something sorta" trappish. I changed the drums to some I liked...

and that was that. I wanted to do something other than loop it but ehh... I have to get up early n shit.

... the only reason is sounds fast is because the hi hat loop is playing at 130bpm and the spacing of the other drums make them appear to be playing at 65 bpm... the snare is on the 9 instead of the 2 & 4 (like most new people start out doing), .... most people just refer to this as "double-time"

The moral of all of those screenshots is.... swap out drums... you'll get nice surprises every now and then.

Rome you are the ****in man! Thank you for this and everything else you helped me with over the years.

Preciate it ! (I thought I was going to get a big - "Errbody already know that! GTFOH!")

... it's my belief that even if two people know the same techniques, they still will make different sounding music so there really are no "secrets" when it comes to software based production. Everything is based on the person.

It's like when I used to sit in art class... the instructor would show us techniques and there would be all of these people trying to draw or paint the same thing... but in the end, none of the drawings or paintings looked alike - even though we all were being graded on the technique he asked us to use.

Smh @ being graded in art class... I understand why... but it is art..right?

Has anyone you know ever failed art class?

Not that I know of... but a lot of what he taught could've been graded, lol. He was trying to teach shade and erase techniques, then you had to smudge ish with toilet paper to get a certain effect, etc.

I guess it's not too much different than giving feedback on beats... you can't say the song isn't art but you can give it a grade based on technique. Like if you told somebody that you'd like to hear them do a hi hat roll... there's only a few ways it'll sound good... it's like hearing a persons first beat... you could give it a grade.

I mean some people in the class had no business being in it, they'd start drawing a person and the person's head would take up the top half of the page, he would stop them and ask "Where are you going to put the rest of the person?" ... at the end they thought more about certain things than when they started out. So the disproportionate drawing of a person could receive a lower grade than a proportionate drawing of a person.

whoa, reason looks a lot more in depth these days.

Reason is practically the same... press the [tab] and it'll flip the rack.
I chose to stay with reason 4 because of the sequencer. Why does propellerhead always gotta mess with the sequencer window when a new version comes out?? Couldn't they just leave it alone??....and why couldn't they add batch export??

Smh..

I knew what it looked like from the back I meant with all the extra little addons I have never seen before. I haven't really used it since version 2.5.

What add ons? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

ohh... you mean in the 7th pic down?

Thats the kong drum machine (top right) & the octo rex (bottom left) i believe...

Yea, if you haven't touched it since 2.5 then you haven't even really got into the combinator yet?

The combinator IMO is the best thing that could have happened to reason...along with thor of course.

Adding the combinator to Reason 3 was like adding a super VST to reason. It really woke it up compared to 2.0

Gay: Brave New World Has Young Kids Coming Out Loud And Proud

The gay and lesbian topic is still a touchy subject for some but as time goes on it’s becoming more clear that the GLBT population is very much a part of our society. Nowadays, children of very young, tender ages are recognizing their sexual preference and “coming out” long before adulthood. Living the homosexual, bi-sexual or transgender lifestyle is hard enough, one could imagine, but it certainly should not send a 9-year-old boy on a suicide mission. It absolutely should not be the reason why so many children are battered, bloodied and bruised by their peers. Despite the fact there are many who let it be known they do not agree with the lifestyle, a vast majority of the gays and lesbians only ask for one thing: acceptance. New York Times chronicled some of the stories of hardship these kids have endured due to their sexual preference – from spiritual battles to identity crisis, their journeys are complex as they are brave. Take a look at these gay, lesbian and transgender teens’ compelling stories.

^^^^ The reason for that story is those kids are confused, experimental and perverted...

Oh and I only upgraded to Reason 5 because of Kong Drum. I still can't believe that they don't allow you to track out your songs either, they should just make an addon that does and give it away for free. I don't understand that part.

Dr. Octo Rex... I don't get the need for that one either unless you're going to just make songs that are all loops. If anybody knows of a good use for it.... post. You can only trigger one loop at a time. Maybe they're getting lazy over at Prop Heads.

I still think REASON is a great tool to use though. I'm not a fan of the REASON sequencer at all... but it's usable.

I might get Record but I'm not sold on it... but Father's Day is around the corner and I always just get additional stuff for my set up. My wife hates buying it but it sure beats socks and a tie.

I've been thinking about Maschine lately. Have you peeped that out yet?

It looks pretty cool, I haven't heard anything bad about it. If you can swing the loot for it, get it.

It's just adding to the arsenal. Some people think it's overkill to have a lot of gear / DAW's or whatever and that you should learn your current DAW down to the program code. If making music is your thing when you need to be creative or kill some down time... what could having more gear hurt?

You can always take it back if it doesn't work out. I take ish back all the time, I've taken back more stuff than I've kept.

RIGHT.

i'm not FUKCIN' w/ REASON until Propellerhead handles that shit...at this point, IT'S 100% RIDICULOUS.

Cool, I'll find something else to get. Maybe upgrade to LIVE 8 Suite or something.

Yeah, that shit is not attractive. She doesn't need to act like a "princess" either, but yo, show some lady like behaviour. That's why they say opposites attract.
