Whats the point of Battle Rapping?

Im not talking about beefing between two artists.

Im talking about events like Grindtime/Smack ETC.

They are really making the genre of Hip-Hop seem low-life-ish.

Espicially the New York dudes, yapping away like some hoodlums about guns and selling powder.

I understand its fun and competitive.

But I am ashamed that this is looked upon as "Hip-Hop" when it shouldnt be.

MUSIC SHOULD BE ABOUT LOVE/CREATIVITY.

NOT GUNS AND POWDER

numsayin?

The way I see it.....it's a way to showcase your talent by challenging your ability to conceptualize on the spot. Problem is not many can produce unpremeditated lines with substance. Free-styling is not an easy thing.
I too want to see more substance and less condescending lines....
it would be nice to see someone put a spin on things for once....
if not me. LOL.

Because a hot 16 is all they choose to do in contrast to a radio jingle. It's also an ego boost when the crowd goes OHHHHH! Ahhhh! wait what?

Battles N cyphers been around since hip hop started to crawl... Im not down with those joke battles though, where dudes aint even battling over a beat. Just talkin shyt like comedians but have ZERO flow.
