How would you describe and define Hip-hop as a genre??

what is Hip-Hop??

what do you consider to be "real" Hip-hop??

is it Hip-hop the culture ( graff, breaks,DJs, MC) with the music an element.. or is the music itself hip-hop alone??

is real and true hip-hop from the 80s to 90s eastcost where it originated??

is Rick Ross Hip-Hop? is Kanye??.

the production and content is so diffrent, as well as the visuals and image, but its still lable HIP-HOP..but neither of them break, Graff or DJ??

is it now hip-POP with majors controlling what sells and the original essence long gone??

i duno everyone has a veiw..

everyone has diffrent veiws there isnt an definte anser, i aint asking what it is, askeing what you consider authentic in an artist today..alot of hip-hop is a product being pushed by a middle age white man who aint got a clue, who thinks graffiti is vandalisum.

Traditionally, Hip Hop referred to graf, breaking, Dj-ing, and Mc-ing. More than that though it was supposed to be a venue for you to express yourself in a way that involved a lot of energy or excitement.

I guess this really sums it up.

There is a definite answer. It is the culture. The B-Boy, MC, DeeJay, and Graf. Those are the elements. The Principles are, Peace, Unity, Love, and respectfully Having Fun. Please research and learn as much about the culture as possible. You have to learn the history of how and why it came about. Hip Hop culture and its principles are a part of everyday life. It's not all about growing up to be a rapper, deejay, or producer. You would be suprised how many Doctors, Law Enforcement Officers, Teachers, Business Owners, Administrators, etc are a part of Hip Hop Culture. We raise our kids in the culture so it will survive. There will be those who argue, but it doesn't matter. The truth is eternal. Hip Hop is a culture that is made up of Principles that consist of Elements. Peace be with you...................Rob Mixx

Depends on what you call Graffiti. Someone with a permanent marker that tags something isn't Graffiti to me it is vandalism. Graffiti is art when done properly.
