MOS DEF in black face in minstrel show clothes?

What is he trying to say? I know there is a deep message behind this. Like when Andre 3000 had a confederate flag belt in the MS. Jackson video. Is he comparing the current state of Hip-Hop to a minstrel show?

.....The album is strange till track 9, but from track 9 and on im really feelin it.

he's prolly telling you subliminally that this album isnt HIS album but a corporate record release. maybe.
 
I have held the belief that there are many that perform in 'blackface', just without the makeup (but updated minstrel clothes i.e. size XXXL sports outfits, etc.). Especially that past 5 years or so.
Salute to Mos Def for doing such a thing. I have thought about doing something like that but it is better coming from an established popular artist.
