A few thoughts on this topic.
1) Live Life, meaning getr outside that studio and get inspired by life. Friends, Clubs, Barber Shops, Carwashes whatever. I know that I sometimes hear a car pass by and cant tell what they are playing but I can make out the drums and bass lines and it sounds good, and it makes me want to create something new. But you wont hear or see that stuff if your in the studio, basically staring at your self. Its just like a sport. Going to ball games, dealing with other ball players, inspires you in your practices and makes your playing better. Going to the hoop court by your self wont help you up your game, nor inspire you to practice harder.
2) Project Focus: Find an artist or producer that truly compliments your style, and makes you up your game and inspires you.
Your homie that raps might be medium ok. And since he's a friend you spend alot of time working with him, but is he actually the MC you are dying to hear on your tracks. If he is, the next question is, is he focused and helping keep you focused.
This is important because as musicians we dream of being stars to some degree. Even if its not being the top 10 on MTV we want to at least be the best in your city or neighborhood and getting credit for doing so. That means completing an actual project from A -Z. From laying the beats, writing and recording the song and having it corectly mixed then professionaly mastered and uploaded on itunes or at least a few copies burned with your name titles and credits on it.
Without this you will continue to feel like this becasue your chasing a dream that isnt real. So make it real and finish the project with the right artist and right producers. When its done its your trophy no matter if it sells 10 copies or 10 thousand.
Im setting for a release as of June next year. Rain sleet or snow. The songs that I dont like will even be on there, if I dont come up with ones to knock them off (unlikley). Why? becasue I am determined to make it real, this coming year. Again I dont have to sell, I just hav eto be heard. Once Im heard then the work will be appreciated by others and this will fuel me to go further untill the point that I do sell.

yea i go thru this.then i try to do other stuff that i like doing (that i forgot about because of music) and it just comes back in time. Also I never try to make a beat unless i'm in the mood. But if you wanna get over it right now.Lets Collab!! and have some fun doin that
Hate to follow up on someones idea, but your right.
Big suggestion. Stop and think about how important it was to collab. The inspiration it brings. You probably started producing after hanging out in school, banging on lockers and desks while some one freestyled. Or made some of your best stuff when all your homies were over at the house vibing with you and trying to argue over who gets that beat.
Bring that back into the equation.
Now that everyone has a DAW and Computer, no one is kicking it at eachother house to bang stuff out like they did when they started. At this time we read forums, turn on our PC and try to make a good track. With collabing we email or drop sessions off to eachother. Where is the vibe in it. The vibe that can ony be felt by multiple people creating at the same exact time in the same place.
Other than that its like talking to yourself or watching porn instead of going on an actual date and creating a bigger situation for the rest of the night, you will get bored very quickly if you do either of those for too long. So get up and get out yall ! ! !
