Oh, you're a hip-hop producer?

Yeah if its a hobby, you already made it to a point where you don't have to worry about money, or you have another source of income which then it becomes a hobby again. Otherwise its about the money if that is your career choice. You can be music first than money but money is somewhere in your list of priorities.

Sampling is just a different skill set than composing. Both can be as simple or complex as you make it. Neither one is harder than the other. What matters is not complexity or how hard something was to do but the final outcome is the beat/song hot or not.

Cosign same thing I been preaching for the longest. Sampling could get real advanced from reversing, octaving, stretching, automating, math equations and other various mixing techniques just to get one chop to fit in like a piece to a puzzle. I see sampling getting more popular in other genres but sometimes its questionable if its just out of enjoyment cuz the samples are jumping out.

Its crazy too sometimes ppl will hear someones beats on a album and swear they didn't sample anything and later find that 90% of samples were used on the album. Also ppl are so fast to say oh he just looped this not realizing that sometimes the producer would like the sample to be evident, rather than disguised.

^^^exactly. And people don't realize that hip hop is no different than rock. It's people that love rock and country......never thought of making any money.....they just weekend warriors....get drunk with their buddies and play the guitar...and start crying and stuff like that. lol! Hip hop is no different. I couldn't ride and smoke in the car without a freestyle session with everybody....and they weren't trying to be "Biggie" or "2Pac"....they just going off the dome about what's going on...what happened....half of the time not rhyming...or either simple stuff. THen you know how that go....that convo about weed making you rhyme better. The next day be the shit.....reministing on dope rhymes that averge folks said in the ride yesterday.

When I got my first place on my own.....everybody was up in there rapper. Having a good time. Come back over just to get a copy of last night. Nobody thinking about money. I wish I had those tapes....they are worth more than money to me. Some of the simplest lines you would ever here.....but since that crazy silly ass fool said it and how he said it right then with everybody crackin up in the background.....that stuff there is priceless. And that's that type of atmosphere that brings the big money....not that serious B.S and copying your favorite rappers shit. That shit never worked for anybody. Got dammit yall take a look through out hip hop history and see where the real money is as a whole...........it's on regular people having regular fun. Funny as thoughts turned into songs.

Word the **** up

I remember only having a gateway computer using a loud speaker with a computer mic on top of it and me and the homies would stand in front of the speaker playing the music out loud and you had to adjust loudness of the music to make sure you could hear the voice using Windows sound recorder this was back in 99' I was 19 before then yeah from age 16 I was battling cats in the commons area at school writing rhymes listening to artists from Wu-Tang to Brotha Lynch... which incluenced my style which was similar to Rass Kass
west coast/but with super wordplay kind of stuff

so yeah those days you just flowed to have fun and burn a CD which took about a hour and half alot of time full disc lol..

You need to understand what you read i never said the south dont sample i said most of us dont! And just because rap--a-lot did songs with samples dont mean a south producer did the track bruh think about it. Again i put lex or any producer who makes all their shit from scratch over any sample base producer period! For me it's like eating a home cook meal made from scratch vs a tv dinner really no comparison dude!

In the UK there's a store called Marks and Spencers, I buy my food from there, all ready made meals... Cause... 1. My household don't have the time to be cooking meals, and 2. cause it's simply better than most of the shit we can cook... So let me apply this to Hip Hop... Sample based Hip Hop is what Hip Hop is... You can't really compare beats made from scratch against samples, cause they are both different products, and the beats made from scratch shouldn't be called Hip Hop, cause it's not what it is, in my view. You can't compare microwave meals to made from scratch meals, cause you can't buy the latter in stores, you need to buy the ingredients, making it more expensive... Do you see what I'm saying?

Anyway, I like my ready-made meals, like my Hip Hop... READY-MADE...

Beethoven is a different genre, you want to be Hip Hops Beethoven? Start sampling, otherwise you ain't Hip Hop...

Also, to anyone who's said you can't say someone isn't Hip Hop... You can, look up the definition:

'A culture and form of ground breaking music and self expression with elements that consisted of the elements of graffiti art, DJing, MCing, and breaking. Today Hip-Hop is considered to be dead in the mainstream because so-called mainstream Hip-Hop doesn't have the elements of hip-hop and have no meaning. '

And I agree with that 100%...

i hate the term "hip hop producer"

who wants to be confined to one genre, i'd rather be a "music producer" that makes hip hop

in 2013 im moving into one of them condos downtown i'mma get rid of some of these Electric Pianos and get a 2-4 month head start.

W..T...F....
You're starting to sound just as bad as the southern dude.
"Non sampled beats aren't Hip Hop".
G.T.F.O.

And frankly that definition is bullsh1t.
Half the people going on and on about stupid words like "Mainstream" or "underground" wouldn't know of Hip Hop had there not been a mainstream to introduce them to it in the first place.
