That thing looks incredible.
If you have a need or a want for it, I say buy it.

My next purchases will be a Mac and Macbook. I'm going to upgrade my midi controllers and soundcards, and maybe upgrade protools and get logic. After that, I'm done. I got Reason/Record, and I don't need to complicate my life any further. Y'all have at it. I'll be working on music somewhere, trying to put folks from my hometown on.

If you're gonna upgrade your midi controllers and sound cards, why not get this?

http://musiccomputing.com/ikeydock

That has everything you are talking about, plus some.

You're gonna be jockin this product just as much as the last huh

I'm a proponent of quality products.

I can champion an Open Labs product, and a Music Computing product. I don't seen anybody being a champion for the laptops and the midi controllers they are using.

i forgot about the microsoft touch table...this has nothing on that...THIS IS HELLA BULKY

Yo Troup do you work for these dudes or something? I'm curious because I always see you commenting and advertising their stuff. Maybe you're just a big fan of their stuff. No hate in this post just curiosity.

I don't work for them at all, and I haven't been advertising them. I just brought it up for discussion in this thread.

But they do have a referral program. :)

oh okay. I do appreciate the thread. It's kinda like a heads up to a new or interesting product.

Troup,

1. How do they allow access to both the front and rear of that Presonus interface? Surely they didn't put TWO interfaces in there. And if they did customize it somehow...why would they keep the standard Presonus 1/4 jacks? It could be much cleaner looking if the removed the circuit board from the default casing and wired in their own jacks.

2. Economically, who is this targeted toward? Newcomers? Would anyone in their right mind spend $1500 starting out for an interface (cheap one at that) and midi controller??

From what I can see the iKeydock is the one of the worlds most expensive midi controllers

I see the appeal but Id just rather have a decent audio interface

What exactly does it do that is any better than a standard controller? Plus that audio interface is very budget.

For the price you could buy an Apogee Duet (way better than the presonus), Maschine (way better than that budget drum sampler) and a decent midi controller with proper pads and knobs.

1) They opened it up and mounted the front and the rear. I agree it would be cleaner looking to do a custom patch panel for the audio interface, but this company went from NOTHING to LIVE in 4 months. Literally it went from a thought, to having a product to sell in 4 months.

What you're talking about takes time to design, time to test, and money to manufacture.

They've already changed the design somewhat from when I got my unit last week, so definitely expect some changes in the design and things within the next few months, as more feedback starts coming in.

Trust me, I've been giving them alot of feedback, and they've been asking me about what features/designs I'd like to see implemented. And you know I'm not shy about telling them exactly what I think! Great thing is, they've already implemented some changes I've suggested!

2) Economically, the products are geared towards everyone. The market that would buy a Roland Fantom, this is for you. The live musician, this is for you. The studio musician, this is for you. The people who want great functionality, power, integration, all at a price well below the competition, this is for you.

Goto the website and actually read up on the products...they have many, many, many more features than what meets the eye.

^So you're kinda beta testing??

I'm not beta testing anything. I bought a product from the company, and I'm using it. I'm also providing them with valuable feedback about my experiences with their product.\

I have a relationship with the key decision makers behind the scenes, so I talk to them.

As with all new products, changes come as more data is gathered.

I'm more inclined to believe they took overstock from the Open Labs failure and threw in these shitty Presonus interfaces on this new product. Have you suggested the Focusrite Saffire Pro 14 as a replacement? Honestly, it isn't much better than the Presonus one but at least you'll have the positive sigma of Focusrite preamps in your favor.

anyway...It's baffling to me how they would continue to push such an expensive all-in-one solution considering the past. This option is too expensive my dude...and those CoreMC DAWs are overpriced. They look cute as hell though.

Expensive? It's no more expensive than a Roland Fantom G8. And people buy those all the time.

And like you said, the Focusrite box is no better than the Presonus box...it's just the brand name that YOU prefer.

Guess, what, some people prefer Presonus over Focusrite.

These all in one's are much lower than the competition. In fact, it outperforms the competition's highest level offering, at half the price.

You're not gonna get anything for free.

And these things aren't for everybody. If it isn't for you, then just keep it scootin, scooter.

No hate....just trying to understand the economics...excuse the crude approach. I'm a creature of habit.

Overall, Focusrite has a more positive sigma than Presonus...I could give a **** about either or to be truthful.

Fantoms are romplers tho so unless you are also including the NI Komplete bundle...no comparison.

This is why those CoreMC's are expensive...

$500 more can complete the package to match AND include something like an EMU 1010 pci interface for MUCH cheaper.
