Just about ready to get down to business..

I've put a lot of work into improving the quality my music for the past year, and I'm feeling like I've finally reached that benchmark that I had set for myself. I'm ready to really get out there and push my work and make some $$$$.


BUT


Before I get any kind of business flow started, I wanna make sure I have the proper bases covered.


*I still need to get my work copyrighted, I'll do that in the near future.

* As far as online goes, I'll probably balance my business between a VIP soundclick and My Bandcamp page.

* Either get a lawyer to draft the proper business contracts for me, or just wing it and use one of these pre-drafted contracts. Most likely the latter (I know it's HIGHLY not recommended, but I kinda don't have a choice this early on). What are your thoughts on this?

* I should finally have a car by the end of this week so going forward it shouldn't be too hard to make personal connections. (School starting back wont hurt either)

*I should probably open another Gmail account strictly for business purposes

*I want to think of a more catchy production name. "ISK beats" is pretty bland....I'm open for suggestions (as if yall know me personally..)

* I'm forgetting some important things, so feel free to remind me what those things are, or give me some more recommendations.



I'll appreciate any advice anyone with experience is willing to share.

Idk about a specific name for you but name yourself as a persona, as a person. Not a production company. You want to be able to be known for you. Not "Something Productions".

I feel like that way too, people will be more likely to keep buying with you. Because it makes you feel like a person they can trust to provide beats not some company they are dealing with.

Well For right now, my goals aren't so huge. I don't have any expectations to make a living but for the first while I'm just gonna test the waters and see what kind of numbers I can do so to speak.

Basically its just gonna be my side hustle until I get a good feel of how the beast works.

Yea I think the whole name thing will just have to be up to me. I want something recognizeable, but not corny. What I really want to know from FP is how you all created your production names.

Thanks to the two of you with serious replies. I know the thread seems "newbish" for lack of a better word, but I'm being serious. I'm just the type of person that likes to make sure I'm set before I jump into anything
 
You got any artists interested Isk? My production improved tenfold when I started to make actual songs...you realize what works and what doesn't. Right now, I'm trying to find a solo artist to work with closely to put a project out but most people I've run into are

1) Lazy
2) Bullsh*tters
3) Untalented

and those aren't mutually exclusive. It's a serious effort trying to find an artist as dedicated to the craft as you are...the others blow themselves up saying they're gonna do this and that and never come through...and the rest aren't worth bothering with.

I would take a hard-working talentless artist over a lazy/bullsh*tter highly talented artist anyday though....

Well I came up with "AlphaMelee" because it is just a play on my real life name. First name Alex last name sounds similar to Melee. lol. I think it sounds pretty cool. But it did take me a couple months to finally land on this one. I had some more "male on male"er names before.

I have a few loose connections with some artists, but nothing tight. i am aware of quite a few young artists in my area that I could possibly reach out to. Cant say for sure who's serious and who isn't but I guess I gotta find out one way or another, right?

^ Good tip, I'm not sure if I want to base my prod. name on my real name, because my real name is kind of strange (the last one anyway). but who knows that could leave the door open for more creativity

Ya but it could be your middle name too like this is gay but I thought of it a while ago and I thought it was cool for like 5 minutes. My middle name is Dane so I was like I'll be Great Dane. It's ok I just wasn't feelin it. Just think creatively and if your lastname is wierd that would probably help.

You got any nicknames?

My middle name is Benjamin....but I think we could clearly see where that would lead, lol.

If anything, I'll probably end up basing my name off of my personality

You could also pick a name that describes your beats. Like Bang got his name because he said his beats were new, different, or foreign to most...so he picked a foreign city that has a cool name. lol
