Hey, How many of you have ever created a whole bunch of tracks , new or old, and put them on a Cd, and actually Lost them, or how many of you created new beats and your system crashed, and you lost all of your work. This happened tlo me yesterday, I acidentlly deleted a folder off of my hard-drive, USB and now 50 something tracks are forever gone, how can I cope with this???

Feel Free To Commment

I recently lost all of my beats too, my system crashed ,actually it was my brother's fault, but that's a different story... anyway, i installed Reason again, and simply started from scratch. It wasn't a big deal. Of course, if i need some of my old beats, i just recreate them. Maybe not 100% the same, but the main idea behind the song is there

last summer my hard drive fried on me i lost like 200 beats, i was pissed at the time but im over it now..i always make sure to back everything up now tho

I lost a couple when I first started so it was nothing I was to worried about. I try and back up my beats at the end of every month just in case.

**** thats why i keep 5 hard drives dedicated to music. Backup monthly like dude said, or whenever you get a "feeling". Ive lost Gigs of beats before. CDR is only a temp fix. Get multiple drives!

say u still have the beats on cd but cant do anything else to the beat as far as mixing could u still get the beat itself as a whole copywritten

ya i lost a few this week, got some virus like out of no wheere, i havent been on any shady sites but when i was makin a beat mcafee went crazy tellin me i had a virus the next morning the comp wouldnt start up so i just reinstalled windows.

Just purchased a Seagate 1TB external hard drive and stored everything on there. Going to purchase another one soon so I can have backups stored on it from Time Machine. If I lost my work I don't know what the hell I would do!

If you accidently delete your stuff, often it can be recovered with free software that will restore those files. Best to install that software before you lose anything if your stuff is on C drive (which it shouldn't be - use a separate drive) because you can't be writing new stuff on the drive or it will overwrite the space occupied by your 'deleted' files - which are not in fact deleted at all - deleting merely tells the computer that the space is now free and can be used again.

If you are backing up on a data DVD, use the gold type, which don't deteriorate anywhere near as quickly as standard cheapo DVD-+Rs.

If a hard drive fails, don't bin it. It is often the circuitry that has failed, and you can look on eBay for a used but working drive of EXACTLY the same model and swap the circuit boards - they simply unscrew and unclip. This can get the drive working again so that you can transfer your stuff to a brand new drive.

Also, if your stuff is on C and that drive fails to boot, don't panic and start re-installing Windows if your stuff is important. Simply remove the drive from that machine and hook it up to a working machine as a second or slave drive.

The working machine will very often recognise that there is a problem with the file system on that second drive and will repair it for you. Then simply return it to its own tower and it should boot (I have done this many times for people). Then you can transfer your work to a USB drive or whatever.

Losing your stuff is not always as bad as it seems - main thing is not to panic by overwriting the space where those files are stored.

I've never lost beatz due to my computer crashing... But i have lost a couple beatz that i was in the process of making due to black outz

I used to use fruity loops on my families windows machine
and after i got my own machine (imac g5) my parents did a fresh install of windows to get all my stuff off of the computer i lost over 60 beats. i don't think there was anyway to run the fruity loops data on my mac but still it hurt pretty bad those were like, my first beats where i started from i now they're gone forever. I'm always backing up everything on my external hard drive now just incase of an os crash or i need to do a little spring cleaning.

nice post...

This is the software I now use - I used to use something else but haven't had a problem for a while and on looking through my stuff for a link to post here I now remember changing to this software, which doesn't need to be installed.

I've recovered all sorts with this, both for myself and for others, and it works well, so I'd advise grabbing a copy, just in case (file is 192KB, less than 1MB extracted):

Edit: I don't doubt there are better, more advanced programs out there, but this has always worked for me and may be enough if you lose something.

If it doesn't recover your lost stuff, don't assume it can't be recovered! It might just mean that you need something more advanced.

@ Dar...check for a program called Recover My Files. it's not free...but if you check download.com...you should be able to find something there for FREE ALL DAY!!

I lost 50+ beats off my fantom once. It was so devastating I realized if I got as mad/down as I wanted to, I would never get back into making music as fast as I did.

I made 20+ beats that week and 15 of those ended up on my album which I sold months later.

Yo it happens man got me too I burnt out two computers in a 3 month stretch over over 500 beats in the old on since thats the pc I started producing with. Then I got another one and thee months later that crashed. Just like 50 beats though. For those of you that are wondering how I had so many beats. I record also, thats something you should always get into to make more money in your community. Street hustle. www.dirtyscopebeatz.com <~~~~ I have been producing for seven years. Tell me what you think of my beats.

Good info Jon_B! Thanks for the link.

NoVA, how did you lose 50 beats off of your Fantom? Accidental delete, power failure?
