RSE do you enjoy making music or do you just do it because you have the equipment?

I do it because music is the food of love and it feeds my soul; because I love the people. Music, art rather, is a form of communication and expression of the human condition.

The people that said Robot is overthinking things are correct.

When you mix music theory with Hip Hop... 8x's out of 10... you're not going to get anything that sounds Hip Hop.

It looks and sounds cool to say to other people... but the Hip Hop genre has never relied on the producers knowing theory. Hip Hop is more about feeling than theory. I make songs to fit the mood imagine I want the rapper to get across... I go from there and try to find sounds that go along with the song concept...

Mood and song concept first....
Then tempo - I imagine somebody rapping at
Then drums
Then a few instruments - not many
Then extra ish like pads, voices, one shots or whatever
Then I listen to it all together - (it'll sound like a big gagglephuck)
Then I sequence it - bringing the instruments in gradually... never let 'em all play together for long

Everytime it's hit and miss... lots of deleted ish lol. Some saved.

I can always make something that's usable just because of how much music I've made and how I listen. I don't actually listen to the whole songs, I listen to individual instruments for a little while then the next time around, I'll listen to the whole song.

Tip: Glockenspiels are Hip Hop... if people can barely hear them... they can make people nod their heads... use 'em like suttle hi hats... I'm hearing them more and more - I never noticed before.

honestly that beat was one of the worst "hip hop" beats ive ever heard... well done! my little sister was in the room when i listened and she said "that is awful" and i didnt tell her anything i just pressed play!

that would be highly embarassing...

I already got people hitting me up sometimes asking me why my beats are wack, (thinking that because the layout is so over-the-top that i have been around)

but im like... Um, because im a beginner?

And theyre like, oh my bad.

Ive only had my soundclick since december, ive only been making decently mixed beats and selling for 4 months, and ive only been learning daws and music from scratch since less than a year ago. i have no real music theory training from my past so its all starting from step 1 for me.

This is future producers afterall so it makes sense that i am developing. I dunno why people always act like this place should be bursting at the seams with professional level talent.
why the hell are you selling beats than???

Maybe you should spend less time adjusting the way you make music and more time adjusting your personality. Your music isn't that bad, and you obviously are very motivated, but you act like such a rich spoiled prick that people don't want you to do well. Be the good guy that people want to root for rather than a brat and you'd probably have a lot more fans.

tip: triangles are hip-hop too ;-)

p.s. liked the remix rome

Thanks for the listen man, preciate it.

Robot I haven't been on much but why was there a picture of you in your drawls in some thread. I don't know what to think about that, lol.

People look at this board at work man... smh.

Haven't we discussed and came to the conclusion that its better to be confident? To fake it till you make it? That all the greatest achievers of any field or era were always over-confident? Ambition, motivation, determination, all those things are fueled by confidence. Sometimes you need to open up your mind to new information and new things and not always be so closed minded. Take a second to think about my words. Im not trying to hypnotize you, just take notice of the fact that being humble is only championed by humble people. Being bold, cocky, or confident, is championed likewise by bold, cocky, confident people. Therefore we should respect our differences and not judge or hate each other based on whether they are feeling themselves or not. If someone wants to be humble, respect that, if someone wants to be cocky and thats how they feel, respect that too. Everyone should ideally feel good about themselves if they want to be happy. Just think before type something next time...

^^ um... its not that simple.

Making music or HHop isn't rocket science, but making songs that people choose to listen to are a whole different story.

Like someone can say: "here I made a song"

OK good for you. Thats not too hard.

But for someone to say: "here I made a hit song that people enjoy so much that they love it and want to spend money to hear it in concert and on their iPod"

That right there is the big picture. Anyone can read about rocket science and learn the formulas, but there are no formulas for making a song people will love/listen to. You cant buy love. The only way to make songs like that on purpose is to understand your audience which is made up of complex human beings and almost infinite variables affecting what they like and give their attention to. Stuff like that you cant learn, only feel. Its an art and a science, not just a science.

At this junction I could be cliche and challenge you two to post something you've ever done, and then clown it, but I wont.

music aint rocket science

no it's not, but that doesn't mean everybody's good at it.

everybody can learn how to use photoshop, but creating a cool design is whole another world.

if a pro engineer would tell you how he mixed an Aerosmith song, he wouldn't say nothing you couldn't understand, but that doesn't mean you're anywhere near him.

of course, it's subjective, and that is the reason why everybody thinks he's a good producer because he's constantly convincing himself.

just like RSE, when we said his drums don't bang, he tried to tell that these just aren't ordinary drums. you can choose the easy way, or the hard way.

I don't know, lol. Tried to tell 'em about 75 bpm theory... if you can't play a keyboard... just make your drum pattern... think of a melody... slow the tempo of the song down to 75 or something super slow that you can play along with, lol... then put the beat back at the regular tempo... works GREAT!

Robot ain't phuggin' with me at remixing...

The stream fires up your default audio player.

You have to have some webspace, you upload a mp3 to it

Then you make a notepad file with the url of the file in it - but you save it with a .m3u extension

It'll stream the .mp3

The tags I use just add a photo and the photo becomes the link to the .m3u file...

The tag looks like this - I put in x's before the .m3u link and the image link...

Webspace is only $4 a month... I keep all my important ish on it, not just music. If this computer crashes... I'm good.

You can always count on certain posters to drop occasional jewels of knowledge. If your smart(which i suspect RSE is), you snap them up and take them back to the lab with you and start learning how to use them.

Yo RSE I can sense alot of potential in you dude.

You have a different way at looking at things and a different way of going at beats.

Your problem as many have touched on is melody and the hardness of your drums

You got unique drums and don't stray away from that. Its kind of like your signature now. Just make sure you put the right fx on them to make them hit hard like regular drums. Either that or layer regular drums under them. Just to give off that familiar feeling to the ear

melody isnt that hard. It doesnt take much knowledge of theory or music to make melody. think about the melody kids sing with on the play ground. They have ZERO knowledge of theory yet they make melodies without thinking.......

STOP worrying about theory right now and worry about two things

To make hip hop the KICK Above all else has to KNOCK. It just has too.... The kick has to be their. The snare has to keep some sort of time, in some way or another........

And to make appealing music that most people will appreciate it will need some sense of melody because melody is universal.

Put theory off into the future. AFTER you can conquer those first two things....... Learning theory before learning those is like learning to drift before learning to change lanes. Its possible just really hard and probably gonna have some ugly results

Yo I think you are right on point with that. Everything you said I agree with 100% and Im gonna definately marinate with that. Thanks for your advice. You seem really perceptive, thanks man.

I never hated you. I don't hate people easily. You just have that in your head.
