Hi IM,

I am not sure exactly what you mean, but you should try the program called Reality. It is a software synthesizer, where you can create your own libraries. The factory sounds are not bad, in case you don't feel like building yoru sounds from A to Z when you start (mean from oscilliators to filters, LFO etc.. since it is a synth).

When this program is installed, you need a sequencer to control it, such as Cubase, logic, or Cakewalk. When I was using reality, I was controling it with Cakewalk.

IF you are more into sampling, i recommend the program called Gigasampler. Same deal you need to control / write your notes in a sequencer, but this time its a sampler like the hardware AKAI and E-MU. Results are not bad considering it is a 100% software solution.

Hope I helped you a bit, don't hesitate to post any question you may have in mind. Peace

i've got a hell of soundforges and cooledits, but heck where can i get a good editor with samples built-in?

Hmm when i was starting my music making i used a program called Dance Machine
Now there is Dancr eJay aka Dance Machine 2

so if you are starting try this progie!

Nothing beats Sonic Foundry's Acid for this sort of business. It's somewhere between a sampler and a sequencer, comes packed with quality sounds, is piss-simple to use, but has all the control of SF's own Sound Forge. Don't go for Acid DJ though - it's more like a demo than a full product - Acid Music is what you need. I'm afraid it makes Dance eJay look like a toy.

I'm kinda new to this composing stuff. And I'm wondering if anyone has any pointers on software/hardware and stuff like that.

Plus, what's some really good software that I would be able to get my hands on for composing?

Software:
Steinberg: Cubase
Seer Systems: Reality
Native Instruments: Reaktor / Generator
Propellerheads: Reason (Coming up!)
Various programmers: Buzz

adding to those progs, there is a good tracker available called the dreamstation from http://www.dreamstation.de though tracker based synths can often be confusing to use,

You could go for the loop based option ACID see

http://www.sonicfoundry.com/products/

Depending on which version of ACID you use they basically sequence loops. They can play simultaneos loops presented on a time line with numerous tracks, you can have one sound(loop) per track, so its rather like auto mixing up to and over 12 record players. the buety of it is you dont have to get the pitch of the sounds correct if u just want it to sound in time as it does this for u automatically - a task that was time consuming in the past.

I will soon be offering an online tutorial using acid and my loops from my archive at http://www.wavebomb.com , once ive devised it the service will be free where i will teach all the tricks of the trade.

Once you have mastered the sequencer and can get loops jamming together nicely the next step will be to create your own loops, this can be done various ways depending on wether you have any hardware synths or modules.

There are a few tools you can surf out that make a bleep zap , acid bass riff or generally any sound by going to a
site such as http://www.synthzone.com you should find a list of links here that offer sound making programs.

This is only one of the many directions you can go, I opt for all ways, call me a sound junkie, noise freak, anything that makes a bleep, zap, ting, ping, Im there tweakin it.

any questions just post
