Same Drums, Different Feel

I have two tracks Track 1 is a "West Coast" beat, where I used a soundpack's guitar samples to make a simple melody. I played this for a friend and he said it felt empty and repetitive so I decided to get rid of the guitar samples and instead made a bell melody and sub bassline.

My question is: Why does Track 1 sound "empty" when compared to Track 2? The only difference is the instruments plus some ambient/white noise in the second.

How can I make all of my beats sound "full" and not get stuck in repetition? I typically do this with drum/hat rolls or breaks.

Too little variation in the instrument melody. The main melody or riff get's repeated too often. There's not a real good structure of the song in reference to it having an intro, verse, hook, bridge, etc. This makes the whole song repetitive.
The bell has a wider stereo sound compared to the guitar. The bell has a bit of a reverb/sustain going on which gives it a different stereo feel/image. Reverb, sustain, echo, delay, among others are different effects that among others, effect the stereo image.
Think of , for example, the Haas effect:

Similar to doublers or spreaders, for example.
