Mute Groups MPC 2000 vs 2000XL

Are Mute Groups set up a little differently from the 2 machines? On my 2000xl I can hit a pad then go to the mute off and hit the pad I want to mute off. On the MPC 2000 looks like I have to hit the pad I want to mute off and then scroll and select the number of the pad I want off instead of just hitting which one I want to be off. I hope that makes sense? Is this what you have to do on the 2000....no other way? Different workflow a lil bit.Just new to the 2000 classic beast.
